The difference between Cam 2011 and Cam 2012...

Cam Newton was what everyone dreamed he would be last season. He was accurate, showed poise in the pocket, read defenses, and had every skill set a QB needed to succeed in the NFL. So what's the difference from last year to this year. It's not like Cam decided "Oh well hmm Im going to play like poo because I just don't feel it this year."

There are many reasons why Cam has regressed this season. The biggest reason is Chud our OC. He threw out everything that worked last year in favor of the read option AS A BASE OFFENSE. No more professional NFL base offense in Carolina anymore. The read option slows down everything, not allowing Cam to read the defense after the snap, allows defenders extra time to get into the backfield which kills our run game. Which leads me to my next point.

Chud also decided it was a good time not to use our 90 million dollar backfield anymore. We have 2 runningbacks with 1,000 yard a year potential and added another RB that was supposed to boost our running game potential to extreme heights. But no, Chud decided screw that. His philosophy is better than anyone else in the league. Chud's ego is so big he believes anything he calls is unstoppable. How is a 2nd year QB supposed to succeed with no running game what so ever? Cam should've been able to lean on our running game this season to help him succeed, but our OC went full retard.

The third reason is of course Rivera, Hurney, and the coaching staff. How does Cam regress so much as far as mechanics? Why hasn't Cam been allowed to call audibles? The coaching staff is the only reason why. Cam improved throughout the year last season with his mechanics. It's the only conclusion. We also didn't strengthen our line this offseason. Our biggest plan was a rookie and a backup lineman to start at guard for us. Not to mention Gross is wildly inconsistent. As a result, Cam has been forced to run for his life and make 1-2 second decisions because our line can't block.

Yes Cam isn't playing well this season. Part of it is his fault, but very little. Out of 100%, I would say 5% at the most is his fault. He was not given any help at all this season. The front office and coaching staff should've done all they could to help out our second year QB, but they failed. Cam now has to start all over from scratch. Right now what you are seeing is the ending result of all of the reasons I listed above. We won't see the real Cam again until we get a competent coaching staff and can surround him with the players we need in order for him to succeed. Until then, get off Cam's back and stop blaming him for our offensive woes. He is the last person you should bash.

Loads of fail in this post but I've bolded a complete factual error. On average Cam has 3.52 seconds in the pocket before he is sacked. That is the 11th longest in the league.

I like stats with more substance. Does that stat include pressures and hits? I can see that Cam gets pressured a lot just by watching the games. According to football outsiders, our pass protection is 24th in the league. They use adjusted sack rate.

Adjusted Sack Rate (ASR)/Sack Rate: Sack Rate represents sacks divided by pass plays, which include passes, sacks, and aborted snaps. It is a better measure of pass blocking than total sacks because it takes into account how often an offense passes the ball. Adjusted Sack Rate adds adjustments for opponent quality, as well as down and distance (sacks are more common on third down, especially third-and-long

They also have our run blocking as 31st.

So tell me how does this help our QB?

    • Ehlers needs to sit. Definitely can't lose him to a meaningless game.
    • Bet didn't hit because the referee missed 3 clear corner kicks. I had a 5k parlay that would have been alive tomorrow if he didn't miss those calls as well. Super annoying
    • I don't think it's at all a given that we have players who are good at driving the basket. I guess that depends on your definition. Bridges is 43rd in attempts in the paint Miller is 64th and LaMelo is 66th. We all love to see the lob threat but it's largely miniscule at this point in time. There's gotta be a solution here if LaMelo is to be the centerpiece because this is simply not sustainable if we want to continue to ascend. If he can't drive to the basket then that means we need to add another player to the core who consistently can. That would require moving someone like Miles Bridges. And that's certainly not going to be popular with LaMelo but something has to give here for what we are investing and we need to maximize guys like Miller and Knueppel on rookie deals while we still can. The three chucking is fine when it's working where the issue comes into play is there are no adjustments when it isn't and we just go into a shell and begin to look like the Hornets of yesteryear. That's why the offensive evolution of all involved is critical to us taking the next step. Getting to the play in is nice but we should have our sights set much higher. Right now though they need to take care of business against the Heat. All I ask is that they at least beat those fools. I cannot stand the Heat.
