Wayyyy too many moral churchgoers on the Huddle.

I quess this sort of tragic event is just a ho hum everyday event for you. How dare there be any consideration of not playing the game tommorrow. It is just a terrible thing to believe in right and wrong. How terrible to have values.

Guest Hornets 2.0

If John Doe, the Wal-Mart cashier, commits suicide in the parking lot does Wal-Mart close the doors for an entire week? No, the store continues operate as normal. What makes NFL coaches & players better than the average person? Playing on Sunday is their job.

that's fine. he's entitled to his opinion...just like you are.

but the reasoning is a bit different than what silver and you and some of the others are saying. it's not all about the dollar.

lot's of accusations flying around about all this, but what do you and silver and the other critic/cynics know about the situation other than just a lot of assumptions? it was a team decision. crennell....who was right there and knew the kid well....was one of the people making the decision to go ahead and he would be one of those needing counseling as much as anyone. which he and the others will be getting.

it's their decision. it's the way they want to deal with it. it's not up to us to know what's right or what's wrong here. you can either try reading between the lines thinking that you KNOW that it's not good for the team and that they don't want to go ahead with it and that it's all about the money, but consider this...it may not be what you "know" it is. sometimes what people say is actually the truth. the chiefs need to be given a bit more credit here. they know what's good for them and they decided that the best way to go forward with life is to go forward with the game and then continue to grieve later.

As scheduled, Kansas City will host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday after discussions between the league office, Crennel and team captains determined the game should be played.

Two people with knowledge of the decision to play the game as scheduled told USA TODAY Sports that there were no dissenting voices. Chiefs owner Clark Hunt discussed the issue with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL general counsel Jeff Pash, and Goodell in turn talked with players union chief DeMaurice Smith.

After meeting with his entire team at Arrowhead Stadium, Crennel met with the six team captains -- Matt Cassell, Derrick Johnson, Eric Berry, Ryan Lilja, Terrance Copper and Dustin Colquitt. The captains agreed that the game should be played. The team was slated to reconvene on Saturday evening at a local hotel, as it is customary for the team to stay sequestered on the night before games.

Kansas City Mayor Sly James told The Associated Press that he spoke with Pioli, who told the mayor he was concerned about fan reaction. "I think (the Chiefs) think there's an obligation to the people of this city, the fans of the team and the fans of the other team to play the game,'' James said.

The NFL said it has coupled the franchise with a team of grief counselors for support.

    • I respect his enthusiasm. Time will tell if it's warrented.
    • Oh I went off and fully entertained my wife last night as my emails go to her phone as well because of my health. So she got the whole conversation as it happened.    Like I went to games in Detroit for the cup finals, I've been to games in Greensboro, Raleigh, and Chicago as well. My mom and her nurse friend double dated one of the players from when the team was in Greensboro. "He's still with the team in some compacity as well." I know people who work for the team at the arena as well. How the hell would I not be considered a fan. Only reason I haven't gone to a game since 2022 is because of my health and money situation. Last game I went to was at United Center in Chicago and me and my wife spent around 1k for glass seats and some food at the arena and we were next to the penalty box. The pictures of the hurricane players I took are lost because my phone crapped out a few weeks later.
    • The Falcons win was a fantastic way to end the season and I think just about every Panthers fan would agree the team the coaching staff and particularly Bryce Young were impressive. We really needed that. Credit where it's due. At the same time. Now we have to establish it wasn't just a flash in the pan. We had one of those earlier in the season against the Raiders. As a tortured Panthers fan I have to acknowledge that. I know you're joking but in all seriousness I don't think the QB sneak is something for us to be concerned about in general but I would be lying to myself if I did not acknowledge that looking back at one particular game last season where we continually trotted out Eddie Pinero on 4th and short on the opponents side of the field we could use some creativity in those situations and it's also a matter of predictability. As time goes on it's something for Canales to work on and figure out. Especially with our kicker situation as it stands.
