I have never thought he was cheap barring 2010, but being cheap and not spending wisely are two different things. The second I believe was our MO for years, which I"m hoping will begin to change. Ernie, get on it.

That's a distinction a lot of folks don't get.

Honestly though, you'd have to lay a fair amount of that at Hurney's feet too.

I see no problem with the letter. JR has failed as an owner in terms of providing a winning product. He's done fine as an owner in terms of making money. Fans don't care about the second thing.

Fans don't care about the team making money all the way up until the time it moves to LA.

Welp. At least they finally defined what a "True Panther Fan" is.

A bunch of sour grapes assholes who play from the position of hindsight.

They complain about Marty Hurney, the guy who has already been fired and helped create a roster that was very competitive for several years including a Super Bowl appearance a couple of divisional championships, and a couple of NFC championship games. Oh and who had the balls to draft Cam Newton in the face of many doubters.

This is a guy who hired John Fox and Fox's tenure we had a .513 win % including going 5-3 in the playoffs. That win percentage would have been higher if the same type people that wrote this letter didn't bitch and moan until Fox had to fire a good OC in Dan Henning to hire a shitty OC in Jeff Davidson (this move in my opinion was the death nail in Fox's coffin)

Hurney has had plenty of missteps and we can go around and around about that. But he wasn't a terrible GM and had a lot of homeruns to go along with some strikeouts.

But what are they complaining about, he was fired. Do they want JR to hire him back so he can fire him again?

I love how they single out Robert Kraft as a model for winning. Good to know that all we have to do is find perhaps the best QB ever to play football and play in the AFC East against the worst collection of QBs in the NFL. That might be hard to swing.

Look, they have every right to do what they did and say whatever they want, just don't act like you are speaking for the entire fanbase.

Also put your name on it. Marty Hurney and JR don't get to say or do things behind the anonymity of made up names. You want fairness, and you want them to hold up their end of the bargain, but you won't put your name on it even as you personally call the owner out.

Maybe they won't put their name on it because they know that seeing as they are supposedly "business executives" it would open their own businesses open for scrutiny to see how great they are and to make notes that every decision they have made has turned out great.

I mean, wouldn't it be ironic if this was an executive at Bank Of America that contributed to an economic meltdown and then preaching about keeping up someone's end of the bargain and fairness, It probably isn't, but how does JR know?

Wow... I don't like where this is going. You can discuss these things in a much more respectful manner.

And that exchange between JR and the local CEO is completely unlike any and all other interactions I've heard of him having with fans. I don't really believe that, but then again, what reason do they have to lie for?

How is what they do for a living relevant? It would be nice to see affirmation that they are indeed PSL owners, but assuming that is true, their points should be evaluated based on their merits. It's not like they are lobbying for jobs, they are just speaking as customers and to some extent as investors.

They could all work at the local McDonalds, but if they are spending their hard earned money on PSL's, where they work shouldn't disqualify the message.

Question, has anyone here, particularly well connected in business had any similar interactions with JR?

I've never heard of anything else remotely close happening between him and someone locally. Only similar instances I know of were the labor negotiations and that is understandable.

Yes, part of me would like to know who wrote the piece and/or paid for the placement.

However, it annoys me when local journalists complain about the anonymity while they routinely cite 'unnamed sources' in their pieces. This usually means: "I'm just making this up."

The local journalists have been essentially scooped by the 'perturbed' fans. Everything in the open letter is pretty much spot on yet the beat writers have ignored all the elephants in the room the ad points out...the biggest being an owner who has totally failed to provide a consistently successful product.

For whatever reason, the beat writers who cover The Panthers are lap dogs who will not directly criticize Jerry even though he's a blatantly incompetent NFL franchise owner.

It doesn't matter who wrote the piece. Finally, a group has publicly stood up to the #1 problem: Jerry Richardson.

      I had started typing my post hours ago and didn’t finish it and just came back to finish it, posted it, then saw yours and saw we were pretty much saying the same thing - even the games that stick out to us most.  I don’t think a lot of people remember that SF playoff game, but I felt like I had just got mugged in broad daylight.  I remember them calling Mitchell for unnecessary roughness, and then I remember watching Boldin take a super late cheap shot, dead in front of the ref and then showing him watching the whole thing in replay…  the refs let them have a fuging field day and didn’t do jack poo, but if we so much as breathed the wrong way it was fuging 15 yards.  Each team playing under two completely different sets of rules.  poo hurt.  I was enraged.  I’ve never went back to watch either that game or SB50 and never will.  fuging robbery.

      I’ve said it a million times since, but it’s impossible to keep them from affecting the game.  In SB50, they literally took the game from us, and they did it early.  Cotchery’s no-catch?  The miraculous amount of times we converted for a first down only to have it suddenly called back make it a 3rd down and 15+ against the best defense in the league that specialized in rushing the passer and man coverage on the back end?  And you do that enough times, you kill the morale and confidence of the team you’re doing it against.  It’s telling the one team “you can do whatever with impunity” and the other “you can’t do whatever they’re allowed to do.”  It changes the aggression level.  It essentially neuters one team and allows the other to do whatever the fug they want.  Imagine you call the police for help and they get there and tell you to sit still while the other party beats the poo out of you and you can’t defend yourself.  That’s what the officials do.  There is no way to avoid them affecting the game.  And more often than not, it’s the most subjective calls they use to do so.  Even in SB50…  you saw the Broncos commit more egregious penalties than anything we did, and barely any of it was called.  Their OL was holding all fuging game and the refs did nothing.  We already had our work cut out for us against two future HOF edge rushers and the refs played to their advantage with that.  From what I remember, both Oher and Remmers were called for holding at various times and their hands were in the INSIDE of the defender.  It was garbage, but all by design. Also, if there is any video of it anywhere, go look at what the refs did against us back in 2013 against SF.  The fix was in there too.  They stepped in early and often and ensured we knew we were not allowed to play with the same aggression or intensity SF was.  It was disgusting as well. at this point, I hope Vince McMahon, errr, I mean Goodell just finally scripts us to win it, because this poo is not won via competition or off merit.

      You can go back to the New York Knicks somehow getting Patrick Ewing.  I saw a story where they place the New York Knick card in the freezer right before the drawing.  It was simple.  Show everyone the cards are undetectable to the human eye.  All they had to do was grab the coldest card. IMO ever since Goodell took over the NFL it has been fishy.  Patriots winning the SB after 9/11, New Orleans after Katrina and Peyton Manning's going away gift against us. The terrible calls during that game were blatantly one sided.  New England should have been stripped of their first 3 SB when they were caught spying on the other team in their SB wins.  I think the evidence against the Patriots was so damning Goodell felt it could ruin football and they brushed it under the table.   In the 2004 SB, How did we go from practically no yards in the first Quarter to setting a record in the 3rd Qtr.  Dan Henning changes the game plan.  IMO probably the greatest half time adjustment of all time.
