carolina-chuck 2013 Mock Draft v5.0

Yea, I saw that you addressed that concern, I just disagree. Playing DE in a 3-4 doesn't qualify someone to play NT in a 4-3. Usually 3-4 DEs are guys that can play UT in a 4-3, which is what Dwan does. They're guys right around 300 lbs that are a little bit taller. I agree Williams or Jenkins would be gross reaches in the top 15, and if Star and Hankins are both gone I want Warmack, a WR or something else and take Williams or someone else that can play NT in the 2nd. I don't want to take a luxury pick with our first pick, which is what a backup to Dwan would be (like I said, in my opinion Dwan isn't a NT and wouldn't be as effective. Our run defense get no improvement). I don't think Dwan is big or strong enough to plug holes. He shoots gaps.

I agree with you that most of these 34 DE are guys that can play UT in a 43, but what these guys do in a 34 D is exactly what a 43 NT would do. They stuff the run so the LBs can make the play. I just really think that if we pass on Richardson, there wont be a good enough NT or DT itself in the 2nd. Jesse Williams and Jon Jenkins are late 1st rounders. Guys that could be in the 2nd are Ford, Short, and S. Williams. All of whom are UT also.

Many things I like about this draft. First of all, I love the Patrick Chung pick up. I didn't know he was up for free agency, definitely would be a good pick up. (Yet I personally think he would be better playing cornerback) I like the Richardson pick. I think we will be picking between 15-20, and that seems like a good range to draft him in. Now, Justin Hunter will most likely be gone in the 1st round, and If you ask me, I'd say he is the best receiver in the draft. Overall I love this mock.

Yea im not an expert or anything but just watching and hearing, Hunter looks to be taking a hit. Twill and Austin have quickly climbed up. I also think that his teammate Patterson will be taken ahead of him. If Hunter isn't there in the 2nd, maybe a Woods but especially a Hopkins or Rogers.

Dwan is not guranteed to be back next year, so i can see bringing in Richardson.even if he is, he is a 30+ journey man DT who has been banged up the last couple of weeks. Richardson could also be brought in on passing downs. If Hunter is there in the 2nd lets hope the GM waste no time to get that pick in. if he is gone, Hopkins who is starting to grow on me looks like a great pick up. if Patterson is there than it is also a no brainer, but i think he also goes in the 1st round.

Completely agree. Dwan's age is getting up there but I hope we can Atleast bring him back. He's a bright spot on this team. Just bc we take Richardson doesn't mean that he has to start day1. We all know that grooming a DT is a long process. Like you said we can definetely bring Richardson in on passing downs. Kearse or Fua can start at NT. Fua likely won't be cut bc he's a Rivera's pick. Fua also has played better this season. Nothing special yet but seeing progress.

And I have also become a fan of Hopkins. I think he can be a legit no.2 WR like a Torrey Smith who has the ability to stretch the field. Hopkins could also end up in the 1st.

I like this mock. Very realistic & would help us at the positions we need it the most.

The only thing I don't see happen, is cutting Dwill. Wouldn't help us with the cap, wouldn't it?

What's the different by cutting Dwill or Trading him. Are we going to have to eat up Dwill's salary if we plan to cut him?

But cut/trade Dwill, I just don't see him coming back.

    • Outside of cerrato, I do like our draft overall. Hard to get can't miss draft picks when you pick late in the draft
    • Very True--and I am a former HS English teacher.
    • Not a Moore fan-but he had a few good games last year-but I want players that scare you--Renfrow's route running and intelligence, Legette's size, speed, and strength, AT's intelligence and route running, Coker's body control, strong hands, and abilty to win contested catches, and TMac's size, body control, and ability to find soft spots in zone coverages.  Horn gives them the ability to stretch the field and he plays special teams.   Moore has a nice smile and can dance.  He filled in well last season, but to get better as a team, you have to upgrade your players.  I think Moore is a bottom of the roster guy who got bumped when we drafted 2 WRs and signed a legit free agent.  Here is the thing--TMac makes us better because he is great against the zone--man?  Good luck with that.  AT's role can be reduced, and that is probably a good thing.  He can specialize in situational football. Coker?  Just getting started. XL?  Just getting started.  Drafting TMac was probably a bit of a wake up call, but XL will be better as the 2. Renfrow?  I see him splitting reps with AT--keeping both fresh and giving different looks. Horn?  Watch the safety cheat his side when he is in the game--I see a young Steve Smith type in him, but he has yet to play a game.  I hear that Morgan loves him.
