Dynasty Mock v.1

Let me start off by saying this didn't really get a lot of thought, just little things that make a little sense. Obviously this will change between now and April but here's my first shot at my ideal Panthers off season without going into a lot of detail.

GM: I think it is almost a foregone conclusion that Marc Ross will be the new GM

HC: If Rivera wins next week vs the aints his job should be safe for next year unless Ross convinces Richardson that we need to go in a dif. direction. If Rivera is fired, here are my top choices to be the new HC(that also make sense if Ross is hired): Seahawks DC Casey Bradley or Giants DC Perry Fewell(worked with Ross in NY and in Buffalo). Bradley is my top choice.

OC: I'll assume if Ross wants to go in a dif. direction, all assistants will be gone. Norv Turner is an offensive genius and I'm sure most would welcome here.

DC: Monte Kiffin. He has ties to Casey Bradley. When Kiffin was in Tampa, Bradley worked as defensive quality control for them plus Kiffin wants to stay in or near the southeast.

Free Agents:

I won't even think about free agents right now until we know who the HC will be next season.

Trades:

Moving DWill is a possibility but I doubt any team will want that contract.

Draft

1st Round - Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee

Think Julio Jones. Yes, Julio Jones. Patterson just declared for the draft and that will turn out to be a wise decision. Patterson will blow up the combine and put up similar numbers as Jones did. The only thing Jones has on Patterson is down field blocking and multiple seasons of experience vs top flight competition.

2nd Round - Leon McFadden, CB, San Diego State

4th Round - Xavier Nixon, OT, Florida

5th Round - Kapron Lewis-Moore, DT, Notre Dame

6th Round - Michael Williams, TE, Alabama

thoughts?

I love Patterson but I dno if I would take him Top15. After the Combine well see, maybe I would.

And McFadden in the 2nd? speechless. Imo, this is a very bad Mock, but sometimes these very bad mocks are what really would happen in the reality. The Draft never turns out to be what we think and it always somehow tend to surprise every fans. Just like this past draft of Kuechly and Amini.

I think this a good mock, Patterson will go in the top half of the first, I just hope the team that picks him isn't us. McFadden is a very good zone corner who can play the run as well. Moore should be rated a lot higher than he is, and I like him. Love the pick of Williams, a good blocking TE is a need. Solid mock, I just hope that we address the lines early. However, if these came to be I would not be upset.

Have you watched McFadden play at all? For real crazy things happen in the draft sometimes. I have to applaud the OP for taking his time to post a mock that he actually put a little time in (even though he said he didn't) and not posting the same mock that everyone else posts.

Im not going to lie, I dont know the kid. Im just saying in the 2nd, I think we could go with a better player or another CB over McFadden. Rhodes, Trufant, Poyer, and Amerson could all be there in the 2nd. Im not sure Id take McFadden over those four.

And really If Rivera is still the HC next season, get ready for another surprise Draft. Rivera have surprised me in two consecutive Drafts. I used to hit on the position or some players that we'll take in the Draft back in Foxy's time. I havent been able to hit once or on a player other than Cam in Rivera's short time drafting.

For example in 2011, I thought we should have taken Jurrell Casey and Chris Culliver in the 3rd over McClain and Fua. The Hogan pick was also a surprise to me and also was the Pilares pick when a Robert Sands/Ahmad Black was still on the board. In 2012, pretty much the whole draft surprised me with Kuechly, Amini, the trade up for Alexander, Brad Nortman and Campbell. I wanted guys like a Ta'amu, Nick Toon, George Iloka, or a punter like Drew Butler. Though this draft turned out pretty well as of now.

I would much rather have Poyer over McFadden, I doubt Rhodes is there, don't want Trufant at all (scared of tackling). I too get surprised by the draft, Alexander I thought would be a late 5th round pick at the earliest. I too was high on Casey until he looked like a sloppy fat pig at the combine, I will not make that mistake again, always trust the gameday footage. Last year I thought Brandon Thompson was a sure early 2nd rounder, he went late 3rd and has ONE tackle on the season.

On your HC choice in Casey Bradley, don't give this guy too much credit for the defensive play of the Seahawks. I strongly attribute Seattle's play on defense to the secondary. The mastermind behind their play is Kris Richard. Before Pete Carroll and his staff came to Seattle, their defense was nothing special. Bradley's overall experience before Pete Carroll's staff was nothing special. I attribute Seattle's outstanding play to Kris Richard, the secondary coach.

    • Keep away from North Winston,  you should be fine. West Winston towards Clemmins is cool. If you're ever at the Peterscreek Walmart, the Pepsi guy is 😎.
    • Game-winning drives have been credited to QBs since the beginning of time
    • A lot of people have been slobbing all over this last draft but I hate the way that Fitterer/Morgan have built this offense since drafting Bryce. Anyone with eyes knew our IOL was crap but we didn't invest there and instead took project receivers and an injured RB. If you want a lesson in how build for your QB wrong, IMO, this was it. Draft him, protect him, THEN get him weapons. Its pretty much a rule, draft interior linemen, pay tackles. We're paying everyone. We had the opportunity to draft a center instead of Brooks, or perhaps instead of trading up for XL, trade back and take 2 guards/center. We could have paid Lewis and still drafted 2, but Hunt at 100m was just an overpay. And it's not like the guys many of us were begging us to draft were long shots. They're solid starters from day 1. Injuries happen. That's why all your starters can't be high value players. You need rookie contracts mixed in to be able to absorb those inevitable losses on the line. An offensive line playing an entire season together is an abnormality.  Factor into that also paying Moton 44m this offseason with a huge signing bonus when we didnt need to do right now to do him a "solid".  Now we have to sign Icky and possibly Bryce and it's a mess with more money tied up in the offense, inevitable cuts and dead cap coming. That's not even factoring in shifting Corbett to C last year after major injury to start at a position he's never played for an NFL season. It's all stuff that was foreseeable and pretty easily avoided.  The $$ and picks we've spent trying to surround Bryce outside of Tmac (Mitchell and Horn are TBD) have been used inefficiently IMO. Smarter drafting and FA with the line could have let us get more reliable weapons than XL and Sanders in FA. It might not be popular opinion, but I'll take a Bersin with hands that can get 6-8 85% of the time vs a big play XL with greasy fingers.  The part about hitting guys in stride was more about placement, which Bryce has struggled with. Obviously not every route is run to be hit in stride, but they do need to have the ball placed well to give the receivers a chance to do something after the catch. I just used Hill as an example because he's the biggest YAC threat I could think of over the past 5 years.   Receivers can feast on dink and dunk if it's schemed right. But to make it work, that vertical threat has to be there, if not the deep pass then the high speed routes that can spring someone for the huge YAC to keep the safeties from cheating into that 20 yard box all game.  I hope DC and Bryce can keep up what they did in the last game and it isnt just an Atlanta thing. But no matter what, I really want to see some better long term strategy coming from the FO.
