Norv Turner, Former Head Coach, Chargers

Coryell: Mentor was Coryell disciple Ernie Zampese

Rivera: Hired Rivera in San Diego; Rivera considers him a good friend and hired his son for the Panthers

John Ramsdell, QB Coach, Chargers

Coryell: Has worked under some of the best known Coryell system coaches, specifically Norv Turner, Mike Martz and Cam Cameron.

Rivera: Coached alongside Rivera for four years with the Chargers

Al Saunders, Senior Offensive Assistant, Raiders

Coryell: Worked directly under Don Coryell in his first NFL job, took the reins from him as Chargers head coach just a few years later

Rivera: No direct connection, but has coached against him with the Raiders a

Ken Zampese, QB Coach, Bengals

Coryell: The son of Norv Turner's mentor, Ernie Zampese

Rivera: Just missed; left the Eagles in 1999, the same year Rivera came aboard

Cam Cameron, former OC, Ravens

Coryell: Long time Coryell system coach

Rivera: Another near miss; left the Chargers before Rivera joined

Hue Jackson, Assistant Coach, Bengals

Coryell: Was on the Redskins staff under Coryell disciple Joe Gibbs

Rivera: Coached against him while with the Raiders

Bob Bratkowski, QB Coach, Jaguars

Coryell: Coryell proponent who, similar to Mike Martz, tends to like a wide-open approach

Rivera: no direct connections found

Charlie Joiner, WR Coach, Chargers

Coryell: Both played and coached in the Coryell system with the Chargers

Rivera: Joined the Chargers coaching staff a year after Rivera did

If we don't get Turner, my first choice would probably be John Ramsdell, but Al Saunders and Ken Zampese would be up there too.

Rivera will probably go the safe route here since he doesn't have a lot of room for error next year. Pick someone he knows personally and roll with it.

I think there are some decent options other than Turner, but Turner would be the most obvious.

Whisenhunt's a Steelers guy. They run Erhardt-Perkins. It's an offshoot of Coryell but not quite the same system.

He incorporated spread elements when he was running the Bengals offense.
