East-West Shrine game

the East-West Shrine game is this week, so here is a thread to discuss the prospects for this week. and any news coming out from the practices.

Terry Hawthorne - DB - Fighting Illini

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler pinpointed Illinois CB Terry Hawthorne as a player who stood out on the field during the first day of East-West Shrine practices.

Brugler also noted that Packers GM Ted Thompson is in attendance. Per Brugler, Hawthorne looked "fluid in his backpedal" and showed impressive "transition quickness" in coverage while "getting physical" with receivers. Hawthorne started 11-of-12 games as a senior, racking up four tackles for loss, one sack, and an interception. Rotoworld's Josh Norris believes Hawthorne is an early third-day prospect who could move up in the pre-draft process.

one guy im ready to see and hear from is Corey Fuller. Like the way he gets seperation from DBs, keeps speed in and out of cuts/breaks, and has the size and speed to be a #1 WR. was a track runner at Kansas for 2 years before transferring to Va Tech to play WR. had 43 catches for 800+ yards and 6 TDs this past year.

Every year there's a DB who shows out in these practices.. Norman did last year so did I believe Casey Hayward did as well

yep Hayward was at the senior bowl tho. but it is a 6'4 safety who played at Richmond that sounds interesting as well as the CB from Illinois.ready for the next 2 days.

Interesting that Marlon McCree is coaching the safeties for the East. Also noticed that Earl Wolff (Safety) had a good practice. I think Wolff has potential as a late round guy that may be worth looking at.

I am big on Wolff and not sure why "experts" don't have him ranked a bit higher. Yet they continue to say Robert Lester is a second day pick, baffling.

    • This is what I mean. I am not some huge BY fan. I honestly don't look at QBs the way a lot of you guys do. Right or wrong, I've always looked at them as just another cog in the machine. Didn't want BY or even a trade up for a QB in 2023. We saw in the Super Bowl how important the rest of the team is on any given Sunday. Now... so PFF, who has no reason to prop up BY, says he's first in 2 stat lines and Panthers "fans" are arguing why it's either wrong or a made up stat just to make BY look good. Even though they have multiple stat lines where he's literally last in. Like 32nd in the NFL. Some he's even lower than 32. Take a step back. Try to objectively self analyze. This is just not sensible.  Same thing I see with other teams' fans and their QBs though. We analyze every single throw on every single play. For every other QB, most here are only using highlights to judge. Makes a difference. We saw Stafford miss throws when they played Carolina - both games. We saw Love throw crap up when they played Carolina. We saw Dak miss throws when they played Carolina - and Pickens was putting on a SHOW. We saw Josh Allen win a game with 163 yards passing against Carolina, but if BY does it he's crap and can't pass for 200 yards. Gents... come on.
    • None of us think we're contenders this season but no reason we're doomed to 5 or 6 wins either. Dan has to have another 2025- like draft class and at least 2 key free agent signings. We're not Seattle but they don't win without 5 starters from their last 2 draft classes and Darnold and Lawrence in free agency.  Alas,  we'll have to wait one more season for a QB upgrade.
