So, what is Hoover, dogmeat?

The FB position will always be a valued position by teams that rely on the run to control the game. Just because some teams are including the FB on less plays and others are eliminating the position altogether doesn't cause the ideal FB physique to be a dinosaur in the NFL.

He has more td's than anyone else on that list. :P

Regardless of the category, fullbacks often are undervalued because of their diminished role. Most play just 10 to 12 snaps on offense because of the extensive use of three- and four-receiver sets, which often replace the fullback with an extra receiver or tight end.

Hoover plays more snaps than that. And probably always will for JD & JF.

A fullback's value also is enhanced by the strong bond that develops between runner and blocker. Top tailbacks implicitly trust their fullbacks to make the correct blocks, and that chemistry often results in positive gains. Therefore, it's not a coincidence that many of the top rushers have benefitted from playing behind a top fullback and why some struggle after the team switches lead blockers.

Just ask DWill & Stewart what they think of Hoover. They love him, the o-line loves him, the entire team loves him, and that's all the respect he needs.

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVER! He has my attention! :D

A great fullback gets the first defender to the point of attack thinking twice about his actions or takes them out and the RB learns to take full advantage of that. I'm glad that we have Hoover and hopefully Fiammetta can take advantage of the learning opportunity.

anyone think there is any chance Hoov gets cut this year?

reason I ask is, can we afford to carry 2 true FBs

I sure hope they let Hoov play out his contract and retire a Panther. I think his play will continue to earn that. But the NFL can be a cruel business.

We already carry 2 kickers, so I'd say it's unlikely we will carry 2FB's. Fiammetta has a tough road ahead to make the team, but I wouldn't say that Carolina would not give him a roster spot. Maybe a special teams role while being a backup FB?

    • Right and I think we can have a conversation about that. But even with the scheme he should still be able to muster more than 1.5 sacks right? I mean DJ Johnson played in Evero's scheme too but that didn't stop us from calling him a bust. Scourton didn't seem to have trouble flashing. There can be different things true at one time.
    • I assume you are quoting my still. If so, I don't know what your argument is since mine was simply showing a play where Bryce scored a TD against the Rams in the playoffs where another poster used a similar still of Herbert's line to defend his poor performance last night. Like I said, Herbert is a better QB but Bryce wins the game last night for the Chargers. It simply is something he does better than Herbert and would play to his strengths. Someone even said earlier Chargers only win 1 or 2 games this year if Bryce was their QB which is so absurdly laughable it wasn't even worth trying to address. I mean this thread is literally called "Bryce Young is the worst QB in Panther's History" so I understand there is no objective arguments to be had here but I found that amusing.
    • I think his knee would make a good reason to switch to guard IF he returns.  Half don't.  Half of those don't last too long.  The strain on a knee (320lb man) vs speed rushers is more substantial.  So I would keep him if I could on a small contract (he will make $17.5 in 2026 fully guaranteed) and think of him as a possible guard for the post Lewis/Hunt era.  Knee injuries in big men are not invitations to invest in them.
