Panthers keeping rookie DE Brown on the move in OTAs

“Our D-line coach (Brian Baker) wants us to be versatile and play both sides,” Brown said. “In college I probably played 90 percent of my plays on the right side, so I’m no stranger to it. It’s definitely going to help in the long run. When teams are trying to game plan against you it helps when they don’t know what side you’re coming from.”

Otah said he’s impressed with what he’s seen from Brown.

“He’s not as big as our other defensive ends but he’s real fast,” Otah said. “And he’s not a weak guy. He has this unexpected strength.”

In the meantime Brown is preparing for both, learning the techniques that come with each position

Would be nice to switch him and Peppers around to confuse some offenses.
both from the same side? that could be scary.

i do like what otah said about him..."unexpected strength". i'm thinking a lot of OTs are going to be shocked by this guy.

I just can't wait to see this guy play, he may not have a full grasp of how to deal with NFL linemen for another year or so but he seems like such a hard worker it makes me think he may adapt a bit quicker than most.

The things that have impressed me about Brown so far, is that he seems to be very intellegent and he has a great attitude to go along with his natural talent. We'll see what happens, but that's a pretty darn good combination to start with.

Exactly. He reminds me a lot of Michael Strahan in a way, both about the same size with a LOT of different pass rush moves. Also both were very strong for only being in the 250lb range.

NOTE: I am not saying he will be as good as him, just that there are similarities.

Brown's personality doesn't lend to fights. Not sure Otah's does either.

Do I think they'll be at each other hard, though? Definitely.

I agree, but add that Spartanburg heat into the equation and anything can happen...

well, otah and brayton got into it last year but i think it was more brayton's getting frustrated with being pulled all over the place and all the holding that otah was doing. otah did punch brayton's helmet in that skirmish, iirc.

    • lol well that kinda ended up working out in the end, even though I still don't have my jersey yet. Was supposed to ship by tomorrow this time, but just got another email saying it was delayed another 3 weeks and because it's been delayed so long, I had to tell them to keep the order or cancel it, but gave me a 25% off my next order as an apology. Well, my original fear came true and they are now selling the FUSE version (but still not the Blue unfortunately) before the one I ordered was ever shipped. But that's awesome, because I was able to use that coupon to order the FUSE instead and then cancelled the original order.  So I got the jersey I wanted for only $6.30 more than the crappier version costs, and it also says it will be shipped immediately and get here early next week, or 2 weeks before the other was now supposed to be shipped out.
    • I've watched this and think we are well underway.  Believe it or not, Bryce is a big part of this.  The way he bounced back with such grace.  And we've got a lot of young players who want to make their mark, Dave is giving them an opportunity.  I loved our draft.  I like the number of guys we brought in, and they will help build the culture we want under Dave.  We're getting closer, and I think we'll see more wins this year than most of the board. The right culture breeds winning, and winning builds the right culture.  Imho, it's coming.
    • As others have said it's both. One creates the other. But it also takes time sometimes years. And there have been teams lately with new car smell coaching staffs that looked like they were putting it together quickly but things came crashing back down to Earth. Sustainability is the key. For that to happen the meddling of our owners has to stop and they cannot be tempted to return to their ways over any bump in the road either.
