Cam on NBC Sports' The Crossover Tonight

I know last year Cam didn't stop working out/film study until after the superbowl but this is a really smart PR move by him. Even though the season is pretty much over, more people care about football right before the superbowl than at any other time. With Cam getting his name, face and interactions with interviewers and radio hosts out there right now, he's exposing himself to more people than ever just due to the timing. Since he isn't coming directly of a loss or a cold streak, he really isn't able to be attacked by the media the way they normally strike at him.

Also since Cam is generally fairly media shy for being an ultra talented quarterback, giving a couple hosts and reporters the interviews they want will go a long way in earning defenders down the road.

OK, here's the deal on Cam's appearance on the Crossover show.

Nice outro when they went to commercial before Cam came on (nice, big, colorful, home whites action shots, with the Superman dominating the screen on fade out). So it was a nice build up to him coming up next. Male and female host on fun type show, with all parties standing.

When they came back from commercial to introduce Cam, the Male host called Cam "The great Cam Newton", "Rookie of the year", while introducing him. That was nice, as Cam did a playful, humorous Usain Lightning Bolt pose, followed by a muscle pose in his dark colored nylon warm up top, with dark blue jeans and sneakers.

Rookie of the year is who?? The dude chose Luck. The young lady chose RG3. Cam chose RG3 for rookie of the year. When asked why, Cam joked "Cause Luck broke my rookie record". LOL

Best Superbowl finish: Cam was asked by the young lady "when were you born (she wanted to make sure he'd give her answer)", and he smiled, delayed and said "1989" as his DOB. Forgot what Superbowl he chose. Ok, he chose Titans/Rams Superbowl. Thanks UNcrules2187

Asked best TD celebration, Kaepernick or Victor Cruz? Cam chose Colin (you got the feeling, this was the celebration Cam would do, Lol). Nonetheless, Cam thought Cruz took the dance/celebration to another level, as Cam did a little Salsa dance of his own when asked. He actually looked like he was running on the treadmill to be honest. LOL

When asked about the season and leader ship criticism he took, blah blah blah (and did the Steve Smith Convo helped): Cam said, "it's the life we live in, and it's something I learned from". Basically, he treated it like 'hey, no biggie, it comes with the territory, and I'm not hating'. He was very matter o fact and even keeled about it.

Cam was asked about Luck, Wilson and RG3's second year (and if Cam's attitude is "wait till you guys get to your second years)" by the young lady, and Cam said "No" and wished them well, with a smile.

He said "each player is different. Andrew Luck is different than Russell Wilson, and Russell Wilson is different than RG3, they all have their strengths and own game", and wished them well.

Then Cam showed his shoes he helped design, when asked (with a running/'The Thinker' type pose first), and the show abruptly faded out with Cam waiting for the male host to try his shoes on, after Cam gave a quick pitch on them. The young lady, starting looking/listening some where else. They seemed to be running out of time or were a little over.

It was very positive, and Cam showed more of his personality and playfulness on this interview, than some of his others, where he appeared to just run through them one stacked up interview after another. LOL

sounded like a good interview.

You guys have one of the coolest QBs in the league. He is pure charm and engaging.

Just a correction to FM's post, Cam chose the Titans/Rams SB because it was in Atlanta and he remembered it vividly. Also said the game was the perfect example of what people mean when they say football is "a game of inches."

Thanks, I added it.

It's funny, I had heard him say St Louis as an answer. But I couldn't figure out why Cam, the Atlantan, would pick St Louis (forgot about the "Greatest Show on Turf"). So I just guessed (as I indicated) he said San Francisco, who I did hear mentioned as one of the questions. Lol.

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
