Hester's Next Team from ESPN Insider

By Tim Kavanagh | ESPN.com

As we noted on Sunday, Chicago Bears WR/returner Devin Hester has re-considered his retirement plans, and would like to contribute to a team. However, given that he's still got some hurt feelings from Lovie Smith being fired, he'd like to continue his career with another franchise.

It's not that easy, of course. The Bears will need to trade him (and some other team will need to be interested in providing a proper return for Hester). Many teams should be interested -- some teams, like the Houston Texans specifically, are looking to bolster their return game this offseason -- but the second part of the previous sentence could be the sticking point: what is Hester worth in trade?

We may find out soon enough.

Fresh start for Hester?

"Because he is under contract for 2013, Hester would need to convince the Bears to trade or release him in order to move on. It's not clear yet how new coach Marc Trestman would use him, but at 30, you would think Hester has several productive years ahead of him. Hester is the best return man in the history of the NFL, and that fact alone should force the Bears to exhaust every effort to keep him. On the other hand, sitting on prominent players who want out is never a good team-building policy. We also shouldn't disregard the financial side of this situation. Hester has only one year remaining on his contract. I'm guessing he wouldn't be looking for a fresh start anymore if the Bears offer him a market-level contract extension. "

Man it would be nice to have Hester in the KR game and to a lesser extent in the offense in a capacity that suits him.

    • You guys remember when the narrative on here was that Bryce would be chronically injured in the NFL due to his size and Anthony Richardson would be super durable due to his? You remember when the narrative was that Bryce was physically incapable of throwing a ball further than 20 yards in the NFL? You remember “I’ll stop complaining when he throws for more than 200 yards and looks like an NFL quarterback”? You remember when 60 sacks was his fault and not the offensive line, slow WRs, and terrible scheme? Pepperidge Farm remembers. It will always be something for some people. Whatever insanity they come up with will be quickly dropped to move on to the next thing. Bryce could have an MVP Super Bowl winning season and they would complain that we can’t run the tush push with him. It will always be something.
    • For the Panthers fans still low on Bryce and demanding that he be a top-10 QB this upcoming season: What stat(s) will you need to see? Not the vibe you want, but rather what does he need to be top-10 in specifically? Passing yards? Completion percentage? Win-loss record? PFF grades? EPA? CPOE? Asking because this was asked before and... well... it ended up that the folks down on him didn't care about the numbers as much as they cared that they just couldn't get passed his size regardless of how he performed. It would be nice to get a straight-forward answer to that without the usual deflection and redirecting.
