Thinking about selling everything I own and moving to Hawaii

This isn't a joke thread. This a thought I've been pondering for sometime but it's very hard to discuss pros and cons with anyone because I don't want to let my friends/family know that's what I'm up to.

Don't get me wrong, I love where I live right now, but I've had a lot of personal and living arrangement issues recently and it's all becoming very hard to afford a comfortable life.

So what do you guys think? Would this be a dumb move? I'm still very young and haven't chosen a career path. I just really feel like getting away and living a different life for a while.

Why Hawaii?

I did the same thing. Had a chance to move to Hawaii, and put a few thousand miles between me and my exwife. It was definitely the right move for me.

Hawaii has a lot going for it, especially if you are young. Good nightlife and incredible weather. And it has a variety of cultures to experience. But its very expensive, especially if you live on Oahu. Everything has to be brought in by boat. And Oahu/Honolulu has a lot of people living on a small island so in addition to being expensive, its very crowded and the traffic can be pretty bad. But that is where most of the jobs are.

But then I spent Christmas day on the beach grilling steaks, with women in bikinis, so it does have some benefits. :)

Why Hawaii?

I'm familiar with islands and I would feel uncomfortable going to a non English speaking country.

While this could be true, I would work a less stressful job, and just be able to live a more care free life.

I'm not trying to get some beach front property and become a golfer, I'm just gonna live an extremely simple life. Not a hobo or anything but I would definitely be roughing it the first few months.

While you're young, go for it. i think you're on west coast? Otherwise I'd say one of the FL keys would be less expensive...

Why not just go to carmel or something? fuging Hawaii is really expensive.

If I sold everything I owned, I'd have enough money to maybe live a couple of months in hawaii before returning penniless.

I was always under the impression that Southern California is way nor expensive than Hawaii.

Im no expert but i think you should double check that. All I know is that SoCal is stupid cheap compared to NY.
