Rivera talks minority hiring and Cam Newton (Florio criticizes)

How does making a rule enforcing race to be a factor help make race not a factor?

Cam's race...don't really care about, don't care about arguments about it either. Doesn't matter to me enough.

The rooney rule and afirmative action = a joke and counter productive IME. Not because racism doesn't exist, or that it needs a solution but because fighting racism with racism is just going to stir more hate and does not contribute to giving the most qualified person the job.

The problem is you cannot force people who are already racist to change. If people are racist and have racist agendas, a law or rule is not going to stop them. Educating future generations is the goal and solution, poeple don't like that thought because it isn't an instant solution like a law or rule 'is'. You cannot fight racism with racism. Getting racism out of society IS A PROCESS. It is something to work for, strive towards not something you just 'fix' or 'force', especially in the south.

Force a racist to interview a minority and you really think they'll all of a sudden change their ways and realize their faults? Not likely. But if anything I believe these rules are just masks over a problem that simply has no short-term solution. It's a mask that says "hey look we have a rule so we can't racist/hiring certain races!" Needless to say I am AGAINST minority hiring/interviewing on the basis of being a minority.

i don't think it was a consideration.

what i'm wondering is how much rivera thought it should be since he found it disheartening that no minorities were hired for HC jobs. if he thought it was a big enough deal then maybe he should have hired hue to be his OC, unless OC doesn't count. guy was certainly qualified enough.

Your point is germaine. When they looked at the staffs of teams with minority head coaaches the coordinators were overwhelmingly white. Unless gingers are a minority Rivera is following the trend with 2 white coordinators. If minorities don't hire minorities themselves then how can they bitch.

whats funny is that mr. scot started this thread without realizing what kind of racial poo thread this would turn into.

Stop pretending we're all living is this nice magical bubble universe called sports where race doesn't matter. This is no a homogeneous country. This a society where minority get screwed for the happy well-being of the majority. Pretending that's not the case is a disservice in itself. This is a world where Cam get shitted on for putting a towel on his head and great humorous articles are written about Cutler's grumpiness after showing off his teammates.

Nobody have time to wait generations. That's total crap. It all boils down to the players. They have more power than you think. The league is about 70% black. if they all start talking the league will have no option but to react. The NBA was the same way at some point until players like Barkley started talking. In the business of sports the players are the commodity. The owners don't have a physical ownership of anything but contracts of great athletes and the revenue they generate. Unhappy players, unhappy league. Though, it seams so far the players are content. All the power to them.

stood corrected. You're white and happy, why would you have time for meaningless issues like black exclusion. And of course, with more 'speed' in the backfield the panther can make the playoffs, right?

I was just laughing at your comments. Nothing Iposted was to you really.

But when you say option to react, option to react and do what exactly? What is the goal?

Because just recentley there was negeotiations between players and owners and both seemed happy at the end...what exactly are you proposing the players do with that power...in other words what are you negotiating? You want the players to own the NFL? Or you want the NFL to turn into basketball?

Nobody have time to wait generations. That's total crap.

This is why racim is slowly fading instead of quickly dying out. People like you drag it on through creating self-fufilling prophecies and devoting your energy to action instead of education and prevention. I realize my priveleges and also know if I were at the other end of this process, it's suck but its still a process and one you can help along. Did you not understand my original post? Once again, you cannnot convince most racist people they're racist or wrong. You can rarley change someone's opinion like that. And trying to by force won't do anything either and will contribute to more prophecies.

Pretty humorous. But I disagree with one thing in the video, the part where he says anytime in the past was always great for white people. Well, in the 200k years of human existence, for about 160k of it black people were the sole resident of this planet we call earth. The Egyptian empire(the first and oldest black civilization) ruled the for over 6K. Pretty much the invention of the gun powder and automatic weapon was the dawn of white supremacy which is barely 600 years old. But that's a different topic all together.

Yes, there was a time when Africans were the only humans on this planet. (I hope this come across as only informational.)

I studied history for 5 years dude. I know this we all come from Africa. Take a joke and lighten up a bit. Its not as bad as you think it is. And it's not as good as some people think it is. There's shades of grey with everything. Just relax. The video is meant as comedy. Louis C.K. is a smart comic he knows this.

The article contains no criticism of Newton whatsoever, and yet the conversation quickly becomes about defending Newton from criticism

Well, the reason there are black coaches in the NBA is because their superstar players speak out and have input on who they want to be coached by.

"I realize my priveleges and also know if I were at the other end of this process, it's suck but its still a process and one you can help along."?

You're such a hypocrite. I like how you're on the other side fugging others up the anus while preaching them to be patient. If you're on the other side, how would you know how I should fight my war? What experience do you have. Don't patronize me, dude! You can't be a victim too. Only I get to cry in this story. Lol

    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
