Coach Rivera hints at signing Mike Wallace (edited to include link)

On NFL AM this morning analyst Steve Wyche asks coach Rivera about FA. Wyche reminds Rivera of his (Wyche's) constant "stumping" for the Panthers to sign Wallace, asking the coach is he warm. Coach Rivera responds by stating that Wyche is indeed warm but they must see how FA is going through Mar 12.

This could be nothing, but I want to believe. A signing like Wallace could have major implications during the draft and for our team going forward.

This would be great for us. WR no longer being a need we could focus on oline and secondary with first two picks. Why wait and see FA until March 12th?

I'd be happy from the standpoint that it shows a shift in philosophy under Gettleman, but I really do not think Wallace is going to be what the hype would have you believe. He is NOT worth what he was asking for. I'd rather address WR in the draft and sign for other positions - CB, DT, etc.

I would tend to agree here.

Mixed feelings on this one.

On one hand, it is nice to go get a receiver that has already blossomed without having to wait 3 years for a rookie to develop.

On another hand, mike wallace has a noted work ethic problem.

On yet another hand, the dolphins are going to throw a lot of money his way.

It'd be great, but it just depends how much it takes to sign him. He's good but he doesn't deserve a Fitzgerald or Megatron deal.

Drafting a WR would be good, and Wallace may or may not be overrated but he is a proven redzone threat with a good combination of height/weight/speed. Also signing a semi-proven vet is consistent with this regimes win now philosophy that people like myself was skeptical this team would adopt.

Gettleman said we would be filling needs with FA/Trades. And Drafting BPA.

Wallace would be a major extra threat in our O. The question is whether 1) we can pay him, 2) we won't overpay him.

I don't believe we will draft WR #14, and seriously doubt Patterson, Allen or Patton (those who I believe would bring immediate impact) will be available round 2.

WR,DT, RG, and CB should all be looked at in FA. The truth being we will have to address two or more of those needs in the draft though.

Also this could be taken more as "we are looking at FA WR's" than "We are looking at signing Mike Wallace".
