Greg Hardy Is Seeking A Contract Extension

Greg Hardy - DL - Panthers

Panthers RE Greg Hardy is seeking a contract extension heading into the final year of his rookie deal.

The timing is right for Hardy in that he's coming off a breakout season, but wrong in that the Panthers have little room to maneuver and defensive ends are settling for below-market deals all over the league. Hardy is currently due just $1.35 million in his walk year, so it's not as if the Panthers can dramatically lower his cap number in the form of an extension. We wouldn't expect an agreement any time soon.

Hardy:

6/17/2010: Signed a four-year, $1.906 million contract. The deal included a $115,786 signing bonus.

2013: $1.35 million

2014: Free Agent

Edwards:

7/8/2010: Signed a four-year, $2.504 million contract. The deal included a $713,840 signing bonus.

2013: $630,000

2014: Free Agent

Kinda, maybe. Edwards is making half of what Hardy will make this year, but Edward's original deal was b$600k more than Hardy's, and all of that was in the signing bonus.

PAY THE KRAKEN!

With what? Fug him if he's going to pull such a selfish move at this time. Let him walk and replace him after the season with Alexander. He thinks he's going to get CJ money after one good season, while we can't even resign Munnerlyn.

If we were able to free up the cash this might be a good time to extend him. If he repeats his season he will command top tier DE dollar, we could probably use the whole "only one good year" argument as leverage to sign him for 8-10 mil a year.

    • He was so much fun to watch as a player but is a prototypical example of the old "never meet your heroes" adage. Great player, not a great guy.
    • Look.... if us BY "haters" give credit about his GWDs...... Will the BY stans also have honest discussion about the 55minutes before the last 5 in which BY has put up 9/20 for 78 yards 0 TDs???
    • The way they are handling now is how they should have handled it from the start instead of that you get a series, you a get a series. Let Chuba spell until he had some of his step back.  We definitely could have put a better showing against Buffalo and their weak run defense had we employed the same game plan we did against Green Bay. Saints were determined to stop the run and make Bryce beat them, Atlanta had similar plan and the coaches and Bryce were able to respond.  Rico although didnt have the best rushing game was vital in the passing game and his catch and run help get us into the redzone there at the end of regulation probably should have been a touchdown that out of bounds was a judgement call it wasn't conclusive and thus should have went with the original call on the field.  Roco brings that dawg to the offense that it shorely lacked up until Miami game. Interesting it was his call that help seal the win for us, glad the coaches were listening. Hope they can get a deal done and run it back next year.
