Next Xbox to require always on internet connection?

If this is true, I'm done with Xbox and will buy the new playstation 4 (assuming that doesn't require always on connection).

Not sure how this will affect sales, but I can't see how this is a good thing for the consumer.

One of their guys posted this gem on twitter. So I'd say unless they make a last minute change (not likely and not very feasable either.) then that the next xbox will require an internet connection and I'd wager that all games have to install on the HD rumor will turn out to be true as well. I think It's so they can keep an eye on used games early on in the cycle and then prevent them with keys later on down the road.

you made the mistake of thinking your average early teens xbox addict gives a poo about this

I doubt it affects sales

A bunch of parents either don't allow their kids to hook them up to the internet. Then you've got the more rural area's that don't have reliable internet connections and then you have people with satellite internet connections that aren't reliable during storms or cloudy days type of poo as well. You also have people that just don't have internet. Then there are those that use their cellphones or tablets for everything internet related so they don't have a traditional ISP either.

This will most definitely effect sales and the bottom line for the system.

I'm on xbox live a ton, but I don't like being required to have the connection constant. Sometimes my internet goes out, and that should stop me from playing games? Crazy. I will not be buying the next Xbox if these rumors are true, and I had been planning on getting one instead of a PS4 (like I got the 360 and not a PS3). Looks like PS4 and their crappy controller will have my business back.

I don't know one person that has an xbox that doesn't have internet. I'm sure microsoft has done their own research to confirm that this is pretty much the case.

People will buy the same console that their friends are getting and don't care about dumb features such as this.

So you're ok if for some reason you don't have internet access and your NextBox turns into a place mat?

Good for you, you can buy it then. And don't be so sure that people don't care about this issue...go to ANY gaming site and most people are not happy about this.

I'm certainly not okay at all with this and I'm not buying any garbage they put out regardless. People are bitching now but once it releases people won't care.

If people aren't gonna raise hell when you pay a premium for services that are free on literally every single electronic device on the market.. for youtube netflix and an internet browser.. I don't think the always on deal is gonna be any different.

Yeah the hypestorm of a new console kinda amplifies things and the forums are probably livid right now but just wait until their shiny new military shooter comes out.

I mean personally I think the only way to play video games now is online versus multiple people. Playing the computer is so boring to me. Story modes are almost never as exciting as whooping ass online. If I had to play xbox with no internet now days I'd just throw the sht away.

I have both a xbox and PS3, I usually play online anyway but like others said sometimes the internet is slow or down and that will suck to not even be able to play.... oh and I like Xbox way better than my PS3, online is just way better and easier as far as talking and playing with friends

I hated the PS3 controller, but you can buy PS3 controllers that are the same design and size as xbox just gotta look for it.

EASports Sucks!

If they do it they'll be losing my support and I've been on team xbox ever since the beginning. I live in a really rural area where the internet is usually out just as much as it is on and unless I'm planning on playing something online I keep my console disconnected anyways. Microsoft has always been greedy, but if they do this poo chances are their greed will kill their fan base.

But then again the opposite could happen and developers could embrace the Nextbox and only release their big titles on it since the constantly online thing could essenstially do away with the used game market.

Although I don't really play video games anymore, this is ridiculous.

When I did play video games I rarely played online (didn't have Xbox live for that long) and was much more interested playing the story mode, or in a local game with my buddies.

This will likely backfire on Microsoft.

    • I'm super excited about the guys we're getting back, and fortunately this year, outside of Robert Hunt, we haven't had any season-threatening injuries. Rico has earned the start, but I am excited to have both available.  The team is finally turning into the run-first team Canales said he wanted to be. As for JT Sanders, I think he has lost the most be being out. He is probably our best receiving TE, but with the emergence of Mitchell Evans & with him and Tommy Tremble both absolutely balling in run blocking, it will be hard to fix something that isn't broken. I'm hoping Turk Wharton can help with our pass rush. We really havent gotten to see him much due to injuries, but we desperately need anyone to provide some pass rush juice, which is what he was brought to do. I'm the most excited about Jalen Coker returning. Theilen may have been the most clutch last year, but I've watched a lot of film, and Coker was the most consistent WR we had when he was out there last year.  I think he can be an ideal #2 to Tmac. While Coker doesn't have the raw athleticism XL does, his route running, savvy, and overall football IQ simply make him better.  I think with the fact Coker can play both outside and in the slot will give our pass game more versatility.  We have been running a lot of 2 TE sets, and I think Tmac & Coker should be the primary WRs for 12 personnel. The other WRs (XL, Tremayne, Renfrow, & Horn) all have roles, but I dont think any of them can fully replace what Coker can do. I do think Renfrow will be inactive this week if everyone is healthy bc of how valuable Tremayne is for ST and as a run blocker. So happy that we are playing meaningful football heading into November. We are still almost certainly a year away, but we are absolutely moving in the right direction
