Tavon Austin Wonderlic score: 7

no. all it really does is show that a team might have to alter the way it teaches the playbook, which, again ,isn't that big of a deal esp. if you think the ability is there.

all i want to see is prior growth and ability to learn and be coached. if they have that, then you have what you need.

Yep. Some players have learning disabilities and need more time to learn the playbook. A timed test doesn't benefit them. If they have proven that they work hard, then I have no problem.

100% agreed. and having a learning disability doesn't make you retarded and doing poorly on timed tests doesn't make you stupid or even show that you've got a learning disability. all it shows is how well they can do in timed tests. the best assessment is one that shows real work done and practical application in real or even mock setting, and in conversations, not sitting at a desk being asked questions.

not everyone demonstrates knowledge the same way. not everyone learns the same way.

This. And the article with one scout said exactly this and said it wasn't a major concern for him with tavon because he had the drive to be great

I think that most of the posts here have validity.

The Wonderlic is one data point that should be evaluated. Much like the 40 times, some people put way too much stock in it or completely disregard it.

To me, you use this data point...tape...interviews...greaseboard work...etc to evaluate a both a players current knowledge of the game AND their likely ability to quickly learn a very complex pro offense.

If a player scores very low, I don't think you take them off your board. But, I do think it is something that should make you go back to tape to evaluate. And, may provide some insight into the type of interview you will have.

If they score low, I would quiz them pretty hard using the greaseboard to gleen their true understanding of the formations and game.

Just a thought.

    • Lil Stanky 100% in the dot tonight... And our 2nd line has been our best offensive line this season. Maybe our 2C really was on the roster this whole time...?
    • That’s a grade I kind of expected tbh. I’m not a huge fan of NS, but he’s not as bad as what the huddle says he is minus the horrible game he had vs the Rams. I’ve always thought he’s often used as a scapegoat. The improved pass rush should hide his deficiencies a little bit better if he’s the game one starter. FS might have to be a position we punt on this year unless Thieneman falls to us at 19. The reality is, you're going to have a few average players in certain spots for a team with as many holes we had before free agency started. You can’t sign everyone.
    • I am by no means trying to say he's a world beater. I'm saying it's trending in the right direction. Especially when measured against himself.i think the team feel the same way or else they wouldn't have picked up his option. Plus I think there is a new idea in the NFL about these young QBs. Teams give up to soon. Browns gave up to soon on baker same with the jets on Geno and darnold. Maybe they are who you thought they were in the draft process and they need more time to develop than you originally planned. Either way. I do think he is as capable as darnold is as far as you can win a championship with him. And something he does have that darnold doesn't is he is clutch.  If I need one more drive and 2 mins to go I'm betting on Bryce and I am far from a homer, just going off his game winning drives. He has that dog in him on the last drive.
