What if we pass on WR at 14. Is there better value in later rounds?

Woods is not better Rogers. No way in hell.

Just the fact that he's a USC WR pretty much drives me away from this guy.

I'm not saying that he's better than Rogers (that remains to be seen), but the fact that you admit the helmet he wears already "drives you away" from him is shortsighted as hell....

A true Freshman who is an absolute freak of nature, and to be fair Lee didn't "eclipse" Woods until last season which was his true Sophomore year. That is unless you call being held to 111 catches for 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns eclipsed. Also, it's hard to get separation when the majority of plays going to you are screen plays. Woods was used as a decoy his Junior year, which is the exact reason he's not at USC still. Anyone who questions his ability should look to his Freshman and Sophomore season. Sorry you're blinded by the logo on his uniform, but Woods has plenty of ability to be at worst a very good #2....

Also are you saying that you wouldn't take Marqise Lee next year because he's a USC WR, because if so then .....

I'd be ok with choosing two defenders. We have a very solid #3 in Hixon and I believe he will be able to make things in the passing game.

Luckily next year we either have a high draft position or we are in a spot to choose an elite WR rather than be iffy on some of the prospects and their shortcomings.

Yea, me too. I think we have done enough in the offseason to the receiver corp even though very mediocre. Hixon and Ginn should help improve the offense. We'll have a legit no.3 in Hixon.

A receiver would me more sexy and an intriguing pick for the fans, but I would much rather go with two defenders (Safety and DT) in the first two rounds. We have more glaring needs at those two positions than at receiver. Defense still win Championships in a high passing offense.

The fear with Woods is that he's near his ceiling and it frightens me. Robert reminds me alot of Colbert. I rather pass on Woods and go for Dobson, Rogers, Patton, Bailey, etc

That might be true, if you didn't factor in his ridiculous work ethic and that he's a much better route runner and hands catcher than Colbert....

Yea, I get that. So, is Stedman Bailey. Bailey and Woods are two very good receivers whom are going to drop to the 2nd bc of their low celings. Players who are raw or supposed to have high ceiling are the ones getting the big money on draft nights. They're also the risk vs reward guys that are more likely to bust than say a Bailey or Woods. If they succeed, they'll be a better player in the future compare to a Woods, but if you need a contributor day 1, I think you go with Robert Woods. Hes a natural guy playing his position when you look at him getting off the line, running routes, and catching balls. I dont know if I would compare Woods to Colbert. There's the comparison there bc theyre both USC guys, but I think Woods is a more complete receiver.

I'm sorry, but that's Grade-A bull. Woods has below average strength and not enough burst to keep defenders on their toes. You can blame screens all you want but that doesn't disguise his deficiencies as a WR that will most definitely affect him at the next level. Yes, he amassed 1,300 yards in the PAC-12 (a conference notoriously known for producing subpar DB talent).

As for Lee, I wouldn't take him in the first round. I don't care if he's a freak of nature. Until a USC product actually lives up to the hype, I'll oppose any USC prospect. Call it shortsighted all you want but I'm not interested.

Facts are now bull? The fact is that Woods was used primarily as a decoy for Marqise Lee last year. I never claimed he was a burner nor did I say he was the perfect Wide Receiver so I'm not sure why you're trying to make it seem like I did. What I did say is disregarding a quality player because of the team they went to is shortsighted at best, which it is. Also, to your point about DBS in the Pac, you do realize that the best DB in the NFL is from the Pac, who ironically enough was lined up primarily against a true Freshman Robert Woods in 2010. The result, 12 catches 224 yards and three touchdowns. But yea facts aren't allowed in this argument. Yes Woods doesn't have elite speed, yes he's not the strongest Wide Receiver, but he does plenty of things well to create space and make plays. So yea it's completely shortsighted to ignore those things because he's a USC WR.

Oh I'm not even going to touch the Marqise Lee thing, because that goes way beyond being shortsighted to being ignorant and asinine.....

What facts? If you're citing that Woods was used as a decoy on every down for Lee then I'll stop right here and refuse to continue on with this debate. Unless the coaching staff told Robert to flail around and pretend to be a 'threat', Woods is an average talent with limited upside.

The best DB (Revis) in the NFL was on Pittsburgh's squad in 2010? What a great fact.

I'm saying that Woods was used as a decoy to draw coverage away from Marqise. There were times where the reads didn't even include looking to Robert, and it's pretty obvious when you have a guy running a shallow cross, and another running the post what the idea is. All you have to do is watch the games to see that Woods wasn't valued, or utilized like he was in 2010 and 2011, despite being the same player. Also, I'm saying that Woods was ignored during times at games because his QB got into a rhythm with Marqise. Woods is just average talent?? Maybe if you only look at speed and strength and ignore things like intangibles, route running, hands, competitiveness on the field etc.

Oh and the best DB isn't a 5'11" guy with injury problems who gets away with mugging receivers because of his hype, sorry to break it to you.....
