Richardson Basically Claims Goodell Is His lil' B**ch

“I think it is worthwhile for you and I to reflect just a little bit on an example of us trying to go to bat for the city,” Richardson told council members in January, according to Spanberg. “You know I went to bat for you in the DNC, I think, as strongly as possible. And I think you will agree, too.

“I have a good relationship with (the other) NFL owners, but we did a calculation and that would have cost every owner about $3 million to do that, including me. I try to get votes, that is one of the things that is real important in the NFL” — here one can only imagine the tears forming in council members’ eyes as they empathized with the task of collecting votes — “and that just wasn’t going to happen. So I called the (NFL) commissioner and said, ‘Just listen to me until I finish. Can you visualize Mount Everest and just moving it 100 feet to your left?’

“I said, ‘Do you have that visual?’ And he said, ‘I do and that is very difficult.’ And I said, ‘My request is very difficult.’ He said, ‘What is your request?’ I said, ‘I would like for you to move the opening game of the season (to Wednesday).’ I thought he was going to have a heart attack when I asked him the question. Then he said, ‘Well, you know, we’ll have to take this to the membership.’ And I said, ‘That is my second point. I would like for us not to take it to the membership ... I was chairman of the committee that selected you as commissioner and I’m expecting you to take some leadership.’ ”

Richardson is an odd cat. I attended some event they do for their sponsors roughly 9 years ago where they feed you lunch, let you watch practice and then have players sign autographs. He also spoke and when introducing his son's up to the podium he kissed them on the lips. Everybody just had a big wtf?!? look on their face.

    • In all honesty, no one knows if Dan really pushed for Bryce to be drafted. It's not fair to Dan to say that just because he was a part of the Fitterer regime then he was in full support of drafting Bryce. If the HC, Reich at the time really wanted Stroud but got bullied into drafting Bryce then Dan had even less say so in the matter. Dan was also saddled with giving Bryce an opportunity to compete in years 2/3 because of the cost to trade up and get him by ownership.  Outside of managing the QB position, Dan has made good moves and built a decent roster. Solidified the O-line and D-line, drafted contributors, and made good trades (Mike Jackson), and free agent signings (Dowdle). I do believe that this offseason will be really important for Dan and we'll see whose side he is clearly on. Bryce has had plenty of time and opportunity to prove himself and he has failed, if Dan is a Bryce homer he'll give him another year and pick up the 5th year option. If Dan isn't a Bryce homer, he'll move on from Bryce. Either way, we'll find out this offseason.
    • You also have to extend him and probably deal/cut Bryce
    • Jones would be what he is if he was on this team, a fairly middle of the road game manager. Still and upgrade but probably not worth the price the 49ers may want for him. If it's not something stupid in terms of ask and he doesn't want something even more stupid in terms of longish term contract, I am okay with a middling game manager until we can do better through the draft. The one thing that wouldn't be terrible is some stability at QB. That has almost never happened under Tepper.
