Why Signing Jake Delhomme As QB Coach Is A Good Idea

You can't teach being clutch. Jake just had "it". Cam...has yet to show anything that remotely resembles clutch. Time will tell.

By "it" do you mean a defense that doesn't give up fourth quarter leads almost every game?

Because Jake had the benefit of having just about the opposite of what Cam had to deal with in his heyday.

imagine it's 2005 and the killers are a hot new band and people still think family guy and dane cook are funny.  the panthers have a 2 point lead with 1:45 left in the fourth quarter.  we just punted and the ball is downed at the opponents' 10 yard line.

now imagine it's last season with the same scenario.  how does the game end in both scenarios?

i think even with that, passing offenses have it easier now than then thanks to the rules and refs going overboard to protect the QB and WRs.

you can't give the other team the ball anymore, and a defense that proved to fail in clutch situations over and over and over like ours has for two years shouldn't be trusted in those situations. the panthers D back then was a lot better and more trustworthy.

Sure Jake can be a good motivator, but as far as teaching someone how to play, Jake always had terrible mechanics. I don't want him anywhere near Cam.

This.....

Jake had terrible mechanics...he just had a lot of heart and found a way to make a play out of nothing.  That is not the skill set to be teaching QB's the technique fo the game.

you put cam with that team and you go to the playoffs every year.

you put jake with the team cam has had to deal with and we have a top 5 pick each year.

While Jake does not have a 10th of the God given talent that Cam does, he had the heart of a lion and seemed to have that knack of finding a way to make that big play and win the game.

Down by 4....2 min to go....on our own 20.

In that situation, I would take the old Jake over Cam all day long.

I believe that Cam will get there....but Jake and Smitty on last minute drives were a thing of beauty.

Jake owes a huge chunk of his success to having a great defense on his team, John Kasay (after all many of his GWDs weren't TD passes but more like hey get to the 30 yard line and have Kasay drill it), Steve Smith in his prime (and, to a lesser extent, Muhsin Muhammad), and cornerbacks like Fred Smoot and Jason Sehorn playing in the nfl. He'd never proven to be a guy that could light up the scoreboard on a consistent basis when the defense was getting scorched, something Cam's had to deal with weekly since he's come into the league.

Jake leads a game winning drive and the panthers win 13-10, hey it's that Ragin Cajun burning up again. Today the Panthers put up ridiculous numbers on offense and end up losing 30-34 because we've got guys like Nakamura playing in the secondary and it's because Cam Newton can't hack it lol.

you have to wonder why we were down so many times and had to have so many comebacks.

plain and simple, we just didn't score enough. i think cam puts more points on the board...when his OC isn't getting in the way, that is.
