Charlotte Bobcats 2013 Las Vegas Summer League Thread

MKG needs to completely break down his shooting form and completely revamp like you would a 5th grader at basketball camp.

Like a golfer revamping his swing, it would take a long time (longer than 1 offseason), but everything outside of his wrist release needs to be changed.

Last night he did something that I am not sure I have ever seen.  He went up and had a pretty good shooting pocket, then in mid air, he brought the ball down to a terrible shooting pocket and launched a line drive jumper.

His body is sideways when he shoots and therefore his shoulders are never square to the basket his feet are out of wack.

If our attempt to fix his jumper is to just tell him bring his elbow in to get under the ball it won't be enough.  Not only does he need to get his elbow in, he need to get his elbow up.

Marc Price is a better than great shooter so it will be interesting to see what changes are made to MKG's shooting form.  But it needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom.

PS-  I was never as good a shooter as Price (the best shooter I have ever seen) but I was considered one of the top 3 point shooters in the nation coming out of high school.  However, I couldn't dribble, pass, or defend, plus I was very unathletic.  But I could shoot the piss out of the ball which was good enough to get my college education paid for.

Point being I am not completely talking out of my ass.  Just partially.

The point is after he gets muscle memory with his elbow and release point. Where it's a comfortable shot for him. It don't matter how it looks. What they need to do in the summer league is give him the green light to take open shots and cuss at him when he doesn't.

I realize this might not make sense but their is a difference between unorthodox and technically unsound.

Reggie Miller's jumper may look unorthodox but if you actually break it down it is beautiful. Like a golf swing some swings look more fluid than others but if at point of contact it is perfect the ball will go where you want it.

It doesn't matter if MKG shoots 5,000 shots a day unless he revamps his shooting motion he will not be an effective shooter.

I will say this for MKG is that the hardest thing to teach is the release and follow through and it is often taught wrong, but MKG's release is not that bad so I do have hope for him.

MKg problem now is release point which is somthing Price will be working on. He has good motion until it comes to the release.

I was a pretty good shooter coming out of highschool and in college as well.

He shouldn't even be worrying about release points at this point.

The truth is if you fix everything else your body will naturally take care of that.

    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
    • OT is the top priority as it is both an immediate and future need.  I wouldn't be past trading up slightly to get the guy we want.  You need that rookie contract right now.  Icky is a dead 17.5 million for the season.  Morton is 20+ mil for the season, Hunt is 20+ mil for the season.  There needs to be forward thinking regarding the future.   Caleb Lomu is a left Tackle, he's a solid prospect, he may be the best pick for us now and in the future.  I would seriously consider cutting Hunt after 2026, and let Lomu and Icky fight for the LT job, loser moves inside.  Icky's future may be at guard after this injury anyway.  If Damien Lewis keeps up his level of play he will need to be paid sooner rather than later.  Yosh and BC can be our top two depth OL at an affordable price.  You will need to look at OT again in 2027. Getting an EDGE for the sake of getting an EDGE outside of the top 10 is pretty risky.  I wouldn't be against eyeing someone like Cashius Howell, Derrick Moore, or TJ Parker in the 2nd (even if we trade a future pick to move up) or DDS in the third. I'd love to see us try to sign both Leo Chenal and Matt Millano in FA.   Chenal for the blitzing element we are missing from our LB corps and Millano for his elite coverage.  They could both work in tandem.  Remember, our FO has deep ties to both KC and Buffalo. I love thinking about the draft, but until Free Agency hits, we are clueless.  Looking at the strength of FA and the draft, OL is priority #1, LB #2, and EDGE #3.  We know what happens to Bryce when protection falls apart.
