Charlotte Bobcats 2013 Las Vegas Summer League Thread

Lol...

That makes no sense at all... Blocking shots is all about timing... ask anyone that has played basketball or better yet go try to play basketball. There is move directly tied to trying to effect a players timing (pump fake).

Hand-eye coordination directly correlates to catching the ball because it requires you to see the ball and then use your hands to catch the ball. Dribbling isn't necessarily a good measurement of hand-eye because you can dribble with out looking at the ball. By definition, block shots does require some hand-eye coordination, but it requires elite timing if anything. Literally everyone can stick there hand up and block a shot, but not everyone can catch a basketball, football, basketball etc...

Just watch Dwayne Wade, he is small but has great timing and is able to block shots from players that are a foot taller than him.

Well part of catching the ball is keeping you eyes on the ball.

I'm not going to dive to deep into this argument but a lot of times it appears that Biz is looking at the rim or defenders to quickly and taking his eyes off the ball before he actually catches it which doesn't have as much to do with hand eye coordination .

It is all the above in terms of Biz not having the ability to catch passes...he is overthinking, lacks general anticipation in non-obvious post pass situations.

Like MKG has to learn to be ready to shoot when he catches, BIz needs to realize he needs to be in a ready to catch position in traffic. Part of the issue is he is rushing it too...bc the game is not slow to him offensively yet.

On a pick and roll with Jeff Taylor Biz set the pick, Rolled to the basket(only to get a rebound), JT got a hard double team on the jumper and passed it in mid air but hit the back of Biz's head.

Biz may just be used to being the raw guy that no one tried to find on offense so he does not expect to get the ball.

Basketball is a lot about having the rhythm of the game in your head(dribbling, rebounding, shooting) and Biz just does not identify the beats(if you will) of scoring opportunities to anticipate passes in various situations.

It all comes down to his lack of expousure of the game.

Someone needs to show him "come fly with me", Magic and Larry Bird sports illustrated video bc after watching one of these I swear I improve my scoring ability by 78.9% bc Im in an inspired rhythm i was not in previously to make me a street ball and intramural legend! Lol

He needs to watch basketball as a fan-student and maybe put the ball down(bc of his intense practice hours) to gain a mental understanding of the game. The mental part needs to be fine tuned too.

I not saying he will play like any of these hall of famer guys but he will understand and see a common rhythm these guys play in. Controlled and decisive with anticipation and knowing what you want to do with the ball before you get it lol..!

I definitely agree with this.  I feel like he should spend the rest of the summer watching old basketball games and playing pick-up ball with non-NBA players.  Stop trying to develop individual skills and try to understand the how the game works

    • I agree with this and I think it's worth mentioning too that Bryce is not consistent on his placement and especially velocity and that in large part is driven by his footwork. We all know XL doesn't have the best hands and I don't know that he can overcome that. Cam always had the heater that just hit your hands and sank into your grip, where Bryce has some that are harder thrown, some soft. Bryce stepping into a pass looks so much different than that hop throw thing he does. I think XL really needs to hit the jugs machine and start learning how to catch all these different touch passes. TMac and Coker don't have these issues. If XL doesn't get some work in he's going to be out of the league in the next couple of years.
    • I think most people like XL from a personal standpoint. I don't think he's stupid either. Although if we are being realistic he is lacking in football IQ at this point in time and it cannot be disputed that he has not taken working on his craft seriously at all times given the body of work on the field. It speaks for itself. I myself have defended him at times given the circumstances of our QB room. But he is now in his third year and 25 years old. We are not in a position as a franchise to go around babying anyone especially first round draft picks. He needs to take his position and his football career seriously or he is going to end up selling used cars somewhere. I hope he realizes this and takes an extended break from social media because that mess certainly isn't going to increase his net worth if he ends up out of the league. And these hanger on types will disappear quick too once that money dries up and it surely will eventually. We'll see how he responds.
