Panthers Camp featured on NFL Channel Today

Recommended Posts

For those of you who have been waiting, today is the day the Panthers are one of the teams featured on the NFL channel inside training camp special.

Edit*

RECAP:

Talking about going 5-1 down the stretch and saving Rivera's job, thanks to the offense scoring just under 30 points per game in that stretch.

Cam Newton will have a lot of input on the offense, just as Breesus, Manning, Brady etc.

The question is no longer how, but how many.  Cam needs to get at least 9 wins or someone else will be coaching the Panthers next year.

Shula transitioning from QB coach to offensive coordinator will help the offense.  Under Chud they threw too much in Cams first year, and in his second year they ran the spread way to much, both resulting in 2-8 starts.  They should play a lot better early under Shula's offensive scheme.

People forget about Cam because of the other rookie quarterbacks.  Cam was a victim of the sophomore slump.  But still racked up over 7,000 yards.  Steve Smith caught all of them.

The success of the Panthers will not be with Steve Smith or LaFell, but with the 3rd receiver next to Greg Olsen.  Sharp thinks Armanti Edwards can be that guy.  A good 3/4th WR makes your offense even more dynamic.  That position is a concern with the Panthers.

The Panthers running backs did not have success with the zone.  Cam was the leading running back.  Hunting and pecking, trying to find the right thing has hurt the offense.  The traditional offense should immensely help.  The Panthers will traditionally run the football.  Shula is going to create an identity of running and play action passing.  Should be explosive.

One on One chat with Cam newton coming up.

Cam speech Recap via CarolinaPanthers8789:

Cam addressed the towel thing echoing what we already knew... he got it from MJ.

Cam said his next goal is to trust his teammates, mentioned Smitty, D-Will, and Stew.

Cam said there is no certain number... "Just Win". Cam said on e they find their identity they will be rolling.

NFLN are saying that ability wise Cam Newton is a top five quarterback and has a chance to be the best, but he needs help.

All NFLN analysts (except for that troll David Jeremiah) said that they believe Carolina is a playoff team.

Talked about a tradtional offense will help Cam and the team as a whole. Sterling Sharpe said he wasn't worried about what Steve and Brandon brings to the table, but a 3rd and 4th receiver needs to step up on 3rd down to help this team. They also said Cam can't be your leading rusher and the pressure isn't only on him but RR. They also said team need a minimum of 9 wins for all the negative talk to go away. There was more but that was what I picked up while talking on the phone.

when you hear Cams got to mature?  Cam: I want to take responsibility

Towel over head?  Cam: something I have always done.  I hate that it is something being interpreted bad.  A lot of people have their trends, that is mine.  I got it from Michael Jordan.

What do you have to do to get the team over the hump?  Cam: senseless turnovers.  Their is no secret ingredient.  Protect the football, check-downs down-field.

What do you have to do to become elite?  Cam: Trust my teammates.  Let me get Steve Smith the ball, D Williams, B Lafell.  I have to get them the ball to be a more mature player

How many wins will it take to.......  Cam: we just have to win.  No set number, no ceiling.  We are going to win everyday.  Don't let an opportunity go by that you do not take full advantage of.

    • From what I gather, sure it allows you more room in that you can manipulate the cap more due to smaller prorated amounts to fit salaries in, but for cap purposes, you're still on the hook for the money at the end of the day.    "ChatGPT You said: What are the advantages for NFL teams to sign larger signing bonuses? ChatGPT said: NFL teams often use large signing bonuses as a strategic tool in contracts. While they cost real cash up front, they offer several advantages, especially when it comes to salary cap management, player retention, and negotiation leverage. Here's a breakdown of the benefits: ✅ 1. Salary Cap Flexibility Signing bonuses are prorated over the life of the contract (up to 5 years) for salary cap purposes. This allows teams to spread out the cap hit, even if the player receives the money immediately. Example: A $20M signing bonus on a 4-year deal counts only $5M/year against the cap. ✅ 2. Attracting Top Talent Players love signing bonuses because they're guaranteed money paid up front. Offering a bigger signing bonus can sweeten the deal without inflating yearly salaries. ✅ 3. Front-Loading Real Cash, Not Cap Teams with strong cash flow can pay big bonuses now while minimizing the immediate cap hit. Useful for teams trying to build around rookie QB contracts or with flexible cash budgets. ✅ 4. Locking in Key Players Larger bonuses make it harder for a player to be released early due to dead cap consequences. This can create more job security for the player and roster continuity for the team. ✅ 5. Leverage in Restructures Big signing bonuses create future cap hits via proration. Teams can later restructure deals (e.g., convert salary to bonus) to create even more cap space. ✅ 6. Competitive Edge In free agency, a team offering more guaranteed cash up front often wins the bidding war, even if the total contract value is lower than another team's. ⚠️ Key Caveat: Large signing bonuses increase dead cap risk if the player is cut or traded early."   I think that roster bonuses can be a useful tool if you're trying to keep players in by manipulating numbers and spreading the hit over time, but I don't think that it's something that you want to use unless it's "necessary." I don't know that you want to get into signing rookies on roster bonuses, as the bust rate is relatively high.
    • not even if that team in New Orleans disbands before the first game.  Saw one 2026 mock that had them drafting first next year.
    • Right, so basically what I said in my first post about this last night. Tepper needs to use that big wallet of his in one of the few ways it can be used in the NFL given the cap.   Give Scourton a bigger signing bonus but not a fully guaranteed deal. Everyone wins in that scenario as if Scourton is smart and hires good money people, he'll take that bigger signing bonus and use it to make more money in the end over the next 4 years than if he just had his fully guaranteed deal and a smaller signing bonus.
