Trading Hardy is so logical its almost common sense.

Guys, remember the "FRANCHISE TAG"?

Franchise tag is gonna be like 11 million straight to the cap dollars next year.

Would rather we  hardy pay him  signing bonus prorated over 6 year contract.. Still give him 30 mill guaranteed which is what the players want anyway.  Set up his base salary this year as a big number since we are under the cap.  Come out next year with him having a 6-8 million cap number.  Drop lose one of our RB's contract probably whoever can still actually run.  Gross is going to retire.  Beason is gonna get a new deal.  Redo Charles contract in 2014 where we will have more contract.  Start of 2015 the dead money off the Williams and Stewart contracts should be dropping off the books.  Be able to sign Cam to extention start of 2015, Kuechly 2016.  If managed properly we should be in even better position Cap wise after signing our core players than before.

Yes, I agree. I'm just saying I'm not stressing about losing him. We have all the opportunity in the world to retain Hardy after this season. If he go on and have a tremendous season this year and we cant come into an agreement, I'd glady take the 11 mil cap hit (not exact number). We still have the ability to negotiate a deal even when franchised. If not, tag and trade the man and get something in return. The franchise tag is our key to at least retaining the man or being compensated for what we loss.

You dont want to pay the man too early. We've all seen too many times what happen after a player is rewarded.

Just got the new Madden 25 and found this to be mildly amusing. When you go to Manage Roster and go to the Salaries tab, this is the picture they chose to use:

Someone will feel the need to create a whole new thread about this but I'm not that person. So I'll just bury this little nugget 8 pages into a Kraken contract extension thread.

What im saying isnt illogical whatsoever. Our D line is stacked as is our LB corps. With Star and CJ commanding double teams and a interior pass rush with Dwan and Short, Alexander could thrive for a fraction of the cost of Hardy.

If Hardy has a monster season, then he'll have us by the balls....his contract demands will be huge.   Best thing is to extend him now because it cuts off a potential contract situation at the nose.   If we didn't extend now we would run the risk of losing him for nothing, or eating an even larger contract if we wanted to renegotiate.

So this is good news for me.  Plus when's the last time a player joined the Huddle?

He's probably trying to not risk injury in the preseason while they're having contract talks.   Would you want to get hurt a few weeks before your raise came up?  I don't blame him.....however if it were the regular season.........

The only way im ok with sign him would be for a bargain price. Maybe in the 30-35 mill range. Our D line is stacked, I would save that money to sign a notable guard, RT or DB in free agency next year. As I said before, I would rather our defense be a top 10 D without Hardy but have a more well rounded offense than to have a top 5 D with Hardy but having Cam getting sacked every other play.
