Ron Rivera et al close to ruining Cam Newton

Cam had an awful game, but I personally have thought his decision making this season has been excellent excluding that game.  We ragged on the offense a lot in G1, but he made really good reads.  In G2, the playcalling was abysmal but his reads were often right on the money as to where to go with the ball, but... yeaaah.  In G3, his reads were money and the players were doing what they needed to.

Cam has some deficiencies but this idea that he "one of the worst" QBs in the league in any category over the last few years is a bit silly

If we keep seeing games like this moving forward, I'll get worried... and we might if we don't figure out how to block.

Your dumb as fug to use the Wilson's int to argue with what I said. If you watched the game, obviously you didn't and only saw the highlights you'd would've saw That Wilson played a hell of a game. Threw the ball when he had to and ran for multiple first downs when under pressure. Some guys has it and some don't. Cam don't. I know I'm hurting your feelings here but take it in easily. It'll be alright. Good night.

The Seahawks have been winning in spite of Russell Wilson, not because of him. His INT at the end lost them the game. Period. If Cam Newton did this you would be ready to trade him and be typing up all sorts of vitriol about him. Why do you have a double standard?

Those of you saying Cam should've scrambled more often, did you notice the Chiefs spying him on every play? That's the problem, they were able to send a blitz while also dedicating a LB to spy and we had no one who could beat man coverage. Our staff did nothing to adjust to this. No screens. No quick slants. Just a stubborn insistence on continuing to run downfield routes while our OL got blown up.

We had a couple quick slants, one of which was a drop in the end zone, the other an INT...

but... we also didn't have any designed rollouts or try to get Cam into space often.  meh

Cam Newton threw 3 ints today in a blowout loss and I still haven't decided that I want to trade him. Why would I want to trade Cam if he was in Wilson's position yesterday? I think it's time for you to go to sleep Red.

Using a spy is a fairly common - and effective - tactic for neutralizing runs by a mobile QB.

Best way to beat it is effective passing.  Sadly that didn't happen :(

The one thing I will say about the Panthers right now is it feels like they don't play smart. Not just Cam but the entire team. At one point they threw up a graphic and we had more penalty yards than rushing yards. And we had a decent amount of rushing yards. We had several penalties that either didn't affect the outcome or were declined. Like that penalty on the field goal. We had an offside on a defensive field goal(might have been extra point) then a rekick on our field goal that could have changed the game. Armond smith commits more penalties than positive plays. Steve getting called for the pushoff (if he was Tony Gonzalez that would have been Def PI). Then you have the blow assignments, dropped balls, and turnovers. We keep praising the team for playing hard late into the season but they play dumb all season.

At some point it falls on the coaches. At some point you need to be teaching your team to throw the ball away. Don't take an extra ten yards on a sack. Don't hold a guy that's not even involved in the play. Don't get called for a personal foul every single mother fugging game. This is one of the worst things about this loss. We weren't beaten by a good team. We weren't beaten by the Colts or the Broncos. The other team had 3 turnovers and 100 less yards of offense. We failed to score on at least 5 drives inside field goal range. If you think about how bad we had to play to loose this game it will make you drink.

We had a couple screens for first downs and the slant was picked off by the spy.... But yes, it would have been nice to come up with a plan to beat them more consistently.

I swear that you make less and less sense each time I talk to you. I know you're in college, so you have to be smarter than this.

I was joking about the trading part. Are you seriously considering that, lol!

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
