Cam or Eli ?

Cam hasn't been consistent enough to warrant the benefit of the doubt, which is why he has become under question from more and more fans/outlets.

There is another trend that Cam has been tied to that is worth paying attention to.

Who was the OC when DA had his best year(s)?

Who was the OC when Cam had the best rookie year ever?

Who the fug was Hoyer before Chud took over?

QBs tend to look good under a certain former scapegoat.

Thats just not the truth...at all

That does have some merit to it...just stop already..it's always the same 3 people coming in if anything is said that can be remotely construed as negative towards Cam.

Cam doesn't use his legs nearly as much as he used to and the coaches are likely to blame for it...that part has hurt his game.

To say that he has regressed as a player is just ignorance. The team around him has slowly gotten worst thats the difference.

Is our offensive line better or worse than 2011?

Is our WR corps bettter or worse than 2011? Younger Steve Smith, Two te sets with Shockey

Is our OC better or worse?

All of those things affect the qb and all of those things have gotten worse since 2011.

So no Cam Newton hasn't regressed. Cam Newton is a better passer than he was in 2011. Do you say he has regressed because he isn't running wild all over the field? NEWS FLASH what qb is this year? Defenses have adjusted.

It's easy to look at a player and try to say stupid poo like "Cam has regressed" without pointing out that everything around him has gotten worse.

People wonder why I'm not hard on Cam? Because I don't believe he has been given the tools to be a successful qb. Once I see that change I'll be harder on Cam than anybody else. A lot of people don't realize that I didn't even want Cam on this team, I thought he was a gimmick qb who couldn't hit the side of the barn. Once he became a Panther I supported him and rooted for him and grew to love him. He changed the opinions I had about him. The guy I saw in 2011 I thought would become the greatest player to ever play this game. That was no fluke season, Cam is the real deal he just can't get it done alone.

Vick is in the top 15 rushing yards...Pryor is top 25....so clearly better than a few starting RBs....

The sad argument "defenses have adjusted" has never worked against Vick as a rusher but you are going to allow that to work against Cam? Sounds like a far cry from someone who could be the best player ever.

I guess its his turn to adjust or maybe you are just making a lame argument for a player who is just above average or average? If I told you Alex Smith would be out rushing Cam to this point before the season started you'd think I was crazy.

Cam is also not better as a passer...not even close. At best he is the same passer as he was when he entered the league.

He still struggles to throw a proper screen pass for example...He's tossing it at  57.5% this year...down from 60% year 1 and was sub 60 last year as well.

Drops factor into that percentage don't forget that.

    • You may be interested to know that the average depth of separation is dependent upon the type of route run. Though go-routes are the most type of route run, they also produce the least amount of separation (and, of course, completions).   "The average pass catcher runs a go route on nearly a quarter of all routes (22.3%), the highest percentage of any route type in our data. However, those routes are targeted roughly 1 out of 10 times (10.8 percent), the lowest target rate of any route. The WR screen is the least-run route (3.4%), and it's the only route where the average target is behind the line of scrimmage. But it's also targeted at the highest rate (40.7%) and early in the play (1.6 seconds average time to throw). The most targeted routes outside of the WR Screen? The out (27.8%) and slant (25.2%) routes are the next most popular across the league."     "The most valuable routes by expected points added per target were the post (+0.48) and corner (+0.43) routes. The go route (+0.19) ranked seventh on the list of 10 route types. The go route (+0.19) ranked seventh on the list of 10 route types. One possible reason for this: It's harder to separate on go routes, which put the player on a straight path, than on posts or corners, which ask the player to make a cut. Targeted pass catchers on posts and corners average 2.4 yards and 2.3 yards of separation from the nearest defender, respectively, while pass catchers targeted on go routes average just 1.8 yards of separation."   https://www.nfl.com/news/next-gen-stats-intro-to-new-route-recognition-model#:~:text=Targeted pass catchers on posts,) and slant (+0.26).   I would expect that Thielen would have an easier time catching the ball based that he runs the routes where it's easier to get open. Tet? Yet to be seen, but we may be better served getting him on some slants and crossers also.  In general, receivers are going to average a lower completion percentage and yards of separation on certain types of routes than others, that's why we shouldn't necessarily be taking stats, even advanced ones, at face value, as there are dynamics that most aren't even thinking about.  In terms of Tet, he's bigger and somewhat slower than a smaller dude, so you'd expect him not to have as much separation on go-routes, but his catch radius is massive and his hands are awesome. Hitting him in stride will probably be killer, but of course QBs are less accurate on go-routes according to the stats. Depending upon Tet's route versatility and how he is used, we could have a unicorn though. He's relatively fast, has great hands and gets YAC (and on an off note, if X can hold on to the ball, he's dangerous as well because he already has shown some separation ability).
