Trail Blazers trying to steal Felton

Recommended Posts

Source: Rotoworld per Charlotte Observer

In addition to the well-publicized "toxic" offer the Blazers are supposedly prepping for free agent Paul Millsap, the team is also targeting Charlotte's Raymond Felton, Dallas' Brandon Bass and the Lakers' Lamar Odom.

The Charlotte Observer is reporting that the fact the Bobcats have yet to re-sign Felton is no big deal, but if the suddenly desperate Blazers come in with a big offer for the point guard, he could easily end up in Portland. Especially given the fact the Blazers look a lot closer to the playoffs than the Bobcats, who have clearly fallen behind the pace in the East with this summer's movement.

Note: Earlier in the week it was reported that the Trail Blazers were interested in trading for Gerald Wallace, now the Charlotte Observer is reporting that the Blazers are trying to sign Raymond Felton.

We need to taylor our team to beat the top team in our division first, and that would be Orlando. Until we figure out how to beat them playoffs???....PLAYOFFS???

I too am disturbed by the Bobcats lack of movement so far. Raymond in many ways has been the heart, drive and toughness of our team. In the last seconds of the game the man is FEARLESS.

He's not scared of 7 footers. He's not afraid to drive. He's not afraid to take the last shot of the game, which he has often made. He plays like he's 7ft. He reminds me (not in height) of Mugsy, often the shortest guy but almost always had the most heart of any player on the court.

I flip-flop on Felton a lot... but I wouldn't be too upset if we lose him. We'll need another PG, but I think Felton forced a lot of bad shots at the end of games and often looked for his shot at the expense of finding the open man. He also shot a poor percentage a lot of games and instead of trying to facilitate kept forcing his shot. I think Augustin will be a much beter PG this year.

All that said, I would like to keep Felton, but if the Blazers offer him a ridiculous contract, I wouldn't want the Cats to try to match it.

I agree we just don't have any money and everyone else does or they are making moves to get money.

Yep, we just don't have the cash to make the moves....thanks to the brilliant past moves of one MJ (Diop and Mohammed contracts).

MJ = Brilliant Player, but lousy GM

If he goes, I'll have mixed feelings towards it. He always was a tough player, but he was never really the star we needed here in Charlotte. Last year he started to really come into his own but with the Cats having DJ Augustin it really seems like Raymond is on his way out soon anyways.

Good thing this is a team sport and that we can actually have two very good PGs on the roster. :)

Its kind of like having DeAngelo and JStew. What if someone got hurt? You've got insurance to continue your playoff run. Why not take advantage of what we've got while we've got it.

We'll carry three PGs so why not, until we can't afford to pay for both, why not? We all know eventually DJ will get more and more minutes, but isn't that why we kept Brevin Knight around when Ray was a rookie learning the NBA game?

If Felton progresses next year like he did this past year, he could be a top 10 PG.

His first few years he was just a talented but wreckless basketball player. He improved a lot under LB.

His shot and shot selection still sucks though! He will never be the shooter that DJ is, but he has size that DJ will never have.

    • I think the book has been fairly written on Darnold, and by and large stays true. He can be rattled by pressure, and will lose his composure. If a team can get to him and have something go wrong in the plan, the mistakes and errors will pile up. Rams have a better offense, Seahawks sport a better defense. Should be a good 1.
    • Not a defense of him...an understanding of the problem. (something you seem to be lacking right now) 🙄 Bryce in a Canales offense is not an example of a stylistic mismatch, but I can give you one if that helps. When he was playing for the Panthers, Cam Newton sat under OC's running Coryell type offenses. Newton had a big arm and was a strong runner. He fit into that sort of attack very well. Then he goes to New England, where at the time they were running an Earhardt-Perkins system (similar to WCO In a lot of what they do but very different terminology). The Patriot offenses back then were heavily based on timing and rhythm style passing, not something that Newton was especially well suited for. So he washed out at New England, not because he had poor ability (his abilities had been on display here on a regular basis) but because he didn't fit what they wanted to do with their offense. I always go back to Jeff Garcia as one of the prime examples of this issue. Garcia in a WCO looked like a world beater. Put him in any other scheme though...yikes!  So again, Young's issues here have nothing to do with any failure to mesh with Canales. Hell, is say Canales has actually done pretty well at adapting his system to who he has rather than trying to jam square pegs into round holes. Again, it doesn't take an elite level of football knowledge to get this. It's pretty basic. But if you're not even capable of understanding what the real problem is, how are you going to know you to find the right solution? 🤔
