Steve Smith Career Receiving Yards Watch

Recommended Posts

Steve is quietly closing in on a top 20 spot in career receiving yards.  He is just an average game away from Don Maynard (47 yards) and could pass Andre Johnson depending on how he plays vs IND.  Could easily be in the top 15 after next year, even playing the way he is now.  To be honest though, I'm still waiting on him to break out a game or two this year.

Look at the difference between him and Wayne over the same amount of years in the league and you see the difference of a receiver who played with an all-time great QB his whole career and one who had some of his best years squandered by inferior QB play. I hope when his time comes for HoF consideration that they remember just how great Smitty was in so many different areas.

Steve had so many wasted years. He didn't get the touches hist first 2 seasons. Then he had a few lengthy injuries and the Jimmy Clausen year. It's a shame because he could have had an extra 3k yards under different circumstances.

And Jerry Rice...it's just insane what he did in the Bill Walsh offense. Megatron is only 27 and 10 1k yard seasons won't get him close to Rice.

Another tough thing to consider....the younger guys. Steve might get caught by a handful of guys during his waiting period.

true.  a lot has changed since he came into the league.  as mentioned above, blows your mind how good rice was during his time in the league.  unfortunately at 26, i'm too young to remember anything outside of oakland and his year in seattle.

    • Im not firm on many things football, but this statement or belief or strategy I am 100% for. Full Offseason the goal is to make the playoffs. Week 1, 1000% I want to win. Weeks 2-10,  1000% I want to win. Until the math stats 0.000000000% chance at NO playoffs, I want to win. *Once* there's no chance at the playoffs, I want to 100% lose every game until the end. You are still loser at 2-15 or 5-12, I want to never lose like this again. I want the best value for losing and suffering. Again the only goal is playoffs. Once in the playoffs anything can happen, I want to win the whole dam show. If you happen to lose in the first round, that's perfectly fine and lets work hard this upcoming off-season to get another chance to make them.  This is the ONLY way to play in the NFL. Anyone not understanding this method of strategy, please call your doctor for a visit...
    • Purdy's good but at the end of the day you're paying first class money for a business class seat.  It's a big problem with the salary cap.  QBs take most of it whether they are Pat Mahomes or not.
    • Purdy saved the 49ers from that three 1st picks for Trey Lance. People forget that. People also forget he should have MVP votes for the 23 season. He's been any where from the 8th(his best/23) to 14th ranked QB, he's legit and guys around top 10 get paid as QBs.....guys in 28th get paid too, he's 4x the QB Trevor Lawrence is and better than BY by miles as well...even without CMC, Samuel(whos a RB playing WE), and half the OL.    *BUT*    You non-believers missed this ultra important mistake that honestly made me reconsider all the praise I gave him. https://www.si.com/nfl/49ers/news/49ers-qb-brock-purdy-throws-blind-40-percent   That's is damming to my case and reset my thinking of his. That's nuclear scary now and I need some time.  too honest for me to overlook.
