What do you make of Cam's start?

Recommended Posts

Couple things:

1) Nice to see his defense go out and win him a game. There were several games last year that if the defense holds, we win, and he played well and we still lost. This year those things were reversed. And it's okay. Its nice this is the only newton thread on the front page in a win. That's a good thing. I never thought this game would be the type of game where either team lit it up. Those are two super bowl caliber defenses. But this is a win where even though Cam didn't have good numbers it goes by unnoticed because he got the win. That hasn't happened so far in his career, and he hasn't gotten enough credit. All the great ones have their team go out and pick them up on a day they're not at their best.

2) He was good on third down. His best throws were definitely made on third down. One to LaFell. Two big ones late to Smith. That throw to smith on third and 8 was probably the biggest of his career arguably.

3) He had a few 'WTF' throws for sure. The INT on the throwaway was bad. But he didn't hang his head. He kept grinding and got the comeback win. Such an important thing.

4) He made more plays than Kaepernick; a guy who many said would be a QB that changed the game forever and could end up the greatest ever and all that. Cam outplayed him. And Cam was on the road, Kap was playing at home.

5) Only turned the ball over once in a hostile environment.

Not his best, it was an ugly type of game. But there were more positives in this game than negatives. He'll have his share of big stat pretty games, but the most important stat was the one he got: the "W"

San Fran makes a lot of QBs look bad. Russell Wilson looked like Doo Doo Brown when he started their game 1-9.

Most of the passing success against the Niners this season has come in garbage time.

Not Cam's best day. But we came away with a win. And he made some clutch throws

Number 1) it's much easier to take your posts when were winning.

I really don't worry about Cam. Third downs have become exciting to watch no matter how long they are. Cam has been excited the past two weeks but this, in my opinion, was the like the Tuesday before a huge mid term on Wednesday. We got to Wednesday and made a 98. The nervousness should be gone as we now know that we are more than capable of winning big games.

Rivera also said he was quite hyper in the first half, and therefore his throws were sailing high. And he did appear to settle down the second half. But by then (of course) his receivers got the dropsies as well (the TO's didn't help as well).

He'll/we'll take the win, and I'm sure he'll play much better against the Pats at Carolina on Monday Night.

Yes the defense was great. But Kaep also sucked as well. Not sure Tom Brady will be so bad (45 yards passing)?

10 points and 7 of them came from a 27 yard run while the other 3 were from a 53 yard field goal. Not the best day on offense.

This was a defensive game and Cam is valuable in low scoring games because he can extend plays with his legs and he is big enough to avoid some sacks.

Most importantly Cam didn't lose this game for us. Kap lost the game for the 49ers. He failed every third down and panicked on a potential game winning drive resulting in the game ending turnover.

man I long for the days of you doing the Youtube video's of all cam's throws. Can you bring those back, please? I miss them.

I came up on hard times last year and sold my PVR. I may get another one, someday soon.

I got all the games recorded, so If I do get one, I can go back and make a little something.

His start was awful.  But if you go look at the game log, he got a lot better as the game progressed, and in the last couple of drives he was outstanding.  Honestly, I like seeing that more than a game where he starts hot and stays that way.  When he was at Auburn, there was always a sense that come crunch time, he could take over and impose his will on a defense.  I kind of think he's starting to get that attitude in the Pros, and when he does he will become the most dangerous guy in the league.

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
