SB Nation slams JR

Richardson is the sour, unsmiling, founder of Hardee's and the Panthers who forced his own sons out of the business in 2009.

So, NFL fans, enjoy Cam Newton's on-field brilliance and the Panthers' bruising defense. Revere in Ron Rivera's sudden willingness to go for it on 4th down, and be happy for NFL fans in a section of the country where the SEC typically determines football allegiances.

But save just a little bile for Jerry Richardson, a poisonous, vile old miser who has nothing but bile for you.

wtf...

How can you have hate for a self-made billionaire who happens to be the only owner who actually played in the NFL?

The ignorance is confounding sometimes. Yes, JR is an old man. But he is basically the sole reason we have an NFL franchise. If I live to be 80+, survive a heart transplant, and have to bury one of my sons, I hope I am not judged by every little facial expression I make.

well.. it's true

True about what? You mean the man who was so EVIL to fly out with Greg Olsen and his Wife on his private jet to a heart specialist for Olsen's unborn child? Or the fact Greg was so touched by Mr. Richardson's actions that he gave the child "Jerry" as his middle name? How about the fact he has been like a grandfather to Steve Smith? What about that time he attended a long-time PSL Owner's funeral? How about you and the rest of the fuging ignorant hypocrites get your facts straight

That was a really shallow blog post, you can tell he was inspired by a random picture he saw on twitter and dug up paper thin evidence, probably from memory to make his point.

We will never know precisely why his sons were fired, you can make assumptions and guesses all you want but we don't know. I'm pretty sure it's not because he's a scrooge that wishes to spite his children.

I have spent a ton of time in that building and in the community with Panthers staff. You can complain about the prices or the players but the people working there are first class people. I'm not a PSL owner or a rich sponsor but I've had multiple people get to know me and treat me with respect over the years. Danny Morrison is a classy guy, I've ran into him at least 25 times compared to 0 with Mark Richardson.

Some people get caught up in politics or economics. Some people just hate rich people. If you are willing to respect that JR has his own priorities then there is nothing to be mad about.

Everything brought up in that article was something that actually happened. You can just focus on the PR stunts but I'm not that naive.

Yeah but the spin on it is very subjective. Was JR a hard ass in CBA negotiations? Hell yes he was. Why wouldn't he be? Billions of dollars are at stake. Some people feel like rich people owe society. They don't.

He plays off the millionaire players as victims. No one forces them to play football. If they want to fight for higher wages then so be it. JRs Hardees workers had it a lot worse than special teams players making $600k a year.

JRs words about owning their own business weren't empty insults either. He mentored Tim Biakabutuka who now owns several Bojangles.

    • So... what metrics for production do you believe display these issues/limitations best? Are we only using total passing yards, height, and weight thresholds? If so, then what are those thresholds?
    • I mean as far as his size goes it's all over his tape bouncing up and down on his toes in and around the pocket trying to see the field and defenses know this as well as we do but if folks here want to live in never never land and pretend it's not a thing that's their prerogative. Even our head coach has made it a key focal point to get his footwork under control. But it's still something Bryce is going to be tested on early and often no matter how many keystrokes anyone here commits to the narrative it isn't an issue.
    • It speaks volumes that when asked to define a clear performance threshold the responses instead fixate on Bryce's size. It reinforces what’s been clear for a while now... that for some, it has never been nor will it ever be about production. Any struggles will always be chalked up to his frame, and any strong play will be downplayed or disqualified via highly mobile goalposts.
