RGIII: "Media trying to Character Assassinate Me"

Yeah, you're right.  Every single criticism made of black quarterbacks is somehow, someway, no matter who said it or what the circumstance, somehow based in racism.

Happy now?

No.  That is silly.  You just don't get it.

You are one of those people that believe that because there are similar things said in a profile about to different races exempts the existence of racial stereotyping.

You allow yourself the convenience of ignoring the idea that default assumptions create situations where one race is unfairly scrutinized in a manner than that of another race creating different thresholds that certain races must pass in order to avoid certain stereotypes.

That convenient omission allows you to justify everything into a "derp, but they said this about a white guy too, therefore racial stereotyping does not exist.  Me smart."

And here's where you prove you don't get it.

Neither I, nor anyone else here, has ever said that racial stereotyping doesn't exist.  The difference between you and me is I don't attribute every criticism of a black quarterback that I see to racism.

If I hear someone say, "all black quarterbacks do this" that's an obvious use of a stereotype.

if I see a criticism of an individual quarterback, I ask myself, "Is that fair and correct?"  based on what I know of that individual.  I don't care what color they are.

But by all means, feel free to show me which criticisms of RG3 are purely racial.  I'm sure it'll be enlightening

T-bow was drafted in the first round largely because Josh McDaniels thought he was way smarter than he actually was.  Nobody else was gonna touch him in round one, and McDaniels got plenty of scorn for it.

As to Manziel, there's loads of dislike for him in media circles and you don't have to look that hard to find it.  There's also plenty of dislike for him on this board (a fair share of it from me).

And if you really think white QBs are always "loved and forgiven" for their misdeeds, you might wanna google Ryan Leaf.  or for that matter, just go back to the draft profiles I posted and tell me who they are.

This is the point I've made that you've failed to understand.  You replied the same answer that is always given, pointing to someone else who is disliked, and saying "look, he got criticized and he's white."  This isn't about dislike, this is about the level of dislike and criticism in comparison.  Some issues require a certain perspective and finely tuned ear due to experience, I don't think you're willing to understand.

You made excuses for why they were criticized, but again, not the same level.  All of the guys you mentioned more than deserved their criticism with their play.  We didn't hear about how dumb Timmy was until he was out of the league, but all we heard was how "dumb, lazy, etc" Cam was with no basis, and announcers and talking heads still refer to this, this has been going on for years, speaking of google, why don't you google this subject in regards to all sports and the media and see what you find.  This isn't some race baiting issue, this is real and valid, and has been noticed by many.

Cam had arguably the greatest NCAA season of all time, and a great rookie season, none of the guys you listed are anywhere close to Cam, nor are they close to RG3, you picked scrubs to compare with two Pro-Bowl quarterbacks.  Why do you think the level of criticism is the comparable?

If Cam acted like Manziel, he would be criticized and hated much more than he is now, especially with his on the field antics.  There is a big difference between dislike (Manziel) and hate, (Cam) How do you not see this, it isn't even close, and their antics are no way in comparison??  Draft profiles don't tell the whole story.  The media and perception over time tell the story.

If you say so...

I haven't seen anyone here (Well, maybe KT) say that all criticism of black QB's is racist either...

Race was pretty much left out of the thread till this...

RG3 is getting the typical black QB treatment...

...aaaaand it's downhill from there.

Here's a specific statement...

The questions of intelligence and work ethic are rarely if ever thrown at non black QBs.

To which I made a specific response showing that was not true.

And as mentioned, I picked from among players who at the time were the top ten draftable quarterbacks of their particular class.

And as to RG3, he's not being criticized for intelligence or work ethic right now.  He's being criticized for being a whiner who blames everyone else - including the media - except himself for his issues.  You tell me, is that criticism invalid?

You know, I used to go back and forth with Mr Scot too. But then I stopped and realized, for someone who claims that people use race in an argument or someone that crys that race is not a factor in a topics he sure does seem to find time to comment on LITERALLY EVERY CONTROVERSIAL RACIAL TOPIC. Curiously ALWAYS AGAINST ANYTHING THAT POSITIVELY MENTIONS BLACKS.  So I realized he must simply be a troll. Willfully misinformed and blissfully ignorant. Either that or he really believes that poo he writes.

Was Cam Newton's predraft criticism valid? If I recall you defended that stuff which was mostly bologna with a similar vigor and with the same argument you are using now.

Nice personal attack.

Your recollection is a little off.  I said the criticism wasn't based on his race.  Pointed out in the process that nearly the exact same criticisms had been leveled at Jimmy Clausen the prior year.

My take on Newton was that neither he, nor any other QB in that draft, was worth the #1 pick and we'd do better to wait until the following year.  And I based that purely in on-field performance.  Character wasn't an issue I ever even discussed.

But by all means, go ahead and call me racist since that's what you guys wanna believe anyway.
