Anyone ever been to one?

Is it worth paying all the money for that experience?

What are the chances of purchasing a ticket to the Super Bowl after the divisional championships are played and the SB teams are set?

How much would a SB ticket cost now?

How much would they cost within a week of the game?

Is it bad luck to go ahead and reserve a hotel room in NY, anticipating the Panthers will be playing there in Jan/Feb?

I was at the Superbowl in 03-04 when the Panthers lost to the Patriots.  And my wife went with her brothers for the 05-06 game when the Steelers beat the Seahawks (they are from Penn and are Steelers fans).   And yes....it was an INCREDIBLE time and experience.

 

As of the price, it is nasty.  I got lucky.  My wife was an executive for Ruddick Corp (owned Harris Teeter).  HT was a major corporate sponsor for the Panthers and I got tickets directly from HT for free. 

 

Face value on tix will probably by about $800 this year.  However, you won't touch them for that (unless you are a PSL owner and win the right to purchase SB tickets through their lottery system).  The avg Joe will have to buy them through a broker site.  They will likely go for about $2,000 a ticket for the cheapest seats.

 

As for hotel rooms, most hotels will require a 3 night minimum for the SB week-end (at least they did in Houston when I went and Detroit when my wife and her brothers went).  They also require you to pre-pay it (on the hook if you cancel).  NY may be a little different given the huge number of hotels.

 

You can also buy a package to the game through companies like Broach Sports Tours.  They handle hotel, air, and ticket....but that will prob run you about $4,000 a person and the seats will be nose bleed.

 

If you can afford it, it is a fantastic time.  But, I don't think I would shell out that kind of cash for it.

Completely agree. I've been to two...but both for free (my buddy works for ESPN). Both were freaking incredible experiences.

My only advice.... If you're going to do it then do it right. Shell out the cash and enjoy yourself. Don't complain about having to take a bus and not being able to tailgate. The SB parties are much cooler than tailgating anyway (and there aren't many things I like more than tailgating).

Does you buddy work for ESPN here in Charlotte?  I worked there i n the mid 90's and still know a few guys over there.

 

They hooked me up with a few of the parties that ESPN sponsored in Houston.

 

My Houston trip cost me a total of about $300 for the entire  days.

 

Tickets....free (we were 12th row in the corner of the end zone where Ricky Proehl caught the TD to tie the game)

 

Lodging....free (2 co-workers at the time was on a contract with Lockheed Martin and staying in Houston.  They had leased a 3 bedroom condo in a downton highrise....was incredible)

 

Food....mostly free (guys we were staying with had dinner and parties every night)

 

Food/Beer at the Stadium....free (guy I met sitting two rows back was loaded.  He made a deal with my friend who went with me.  He would buy if we would fly during the game.  Anytime he or we wanted anything, he was pay and my buddy would go get the food/beer.  He flew because I gave him his ticket for free).

 

Only thing I spent was gas money (we roadtripped it overnight....was a blast) and soem souveniers.

I got lucky as crap that year.

 

We were going down to Houston just to party because of a free place to stay....did not have tickets.

 

Wife called me up the day before we were leaving to say that she had been offered tickets.  Everything just fell into place.

 

It will NEVER happen again....the stars only align like that once in a lifetime.

 

My son has already said he wants to go to the SB.  So if we make it, I might just be shelling out $4k a person for he and I.  Memories like that with your 16 yo son last a lifetime.

      Right, so basically what I said in my first post about this last night. Tepper needs to use that big wallet of his in one of the few ways it can be used in the NFL given the cap.   Give Scourton a bigger signing bonus but not a fully guaranteed deal. Everyone wins in that scenario as if Scourton is smart and hires good money people, he'll take that bigger signing bonus and use it to make more money in the end over the next 4 years than if he just had his fully guaranteed deal and a smaller signing bonus.

      It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help.
