Can we pursue Dez Bryant in the offseason?

I'm not real big on trading draft picks for or throwing big contracts at guys who 'maybe' might grow up.

If you don't know the difference between getting into a fight with a teammate (something that happens a lot) and walking away from your teammates with a game still going on, I'd have to ask whether you played many team sports.

more than you grandpa.

and if you dont think punching 3 teammates in the face isn't a locker room cancer when smitty himself said "some people haven't forgiven me...."

then i think you probably were the statistician.

Smitty's intensity comes across a lot differently than Dez's has.

Smitty's been on some really shitty teams... he hasn't walked off the field.  Yeah, he punched a teammate or two...  those were (correct me if I'm wrong) personal issues with those particular guys.  I'm not defending what he did, I'm just saying it wasn't a "team attitude" type issue like Dez seems to have.  Again, if Dez was on a winning team, we wouldn't even be seeing any of this... and I suspect Dez will grow up and grow out of it... maybe.

he punched three teammates. in film room and out in practice.

it was definitely a team issue.

and i think you are right i think Dez needs to gtfo of the cowboys organization. i've read a lot about the guy. people actually really love and respect him as a teammate and person. he pulled a bitch move and he should never do it again.

but are we really saying punching a teammate is less of a team issue than someone walking off the field with time left?

I don't remember the third punch, who was that?  I remember the film room guy and Ken Lucas...

Yeah, that's basically what I'm saying...  fights do happen all the time, Smitty just happened to take those to the extreme.  As far as I know, those were individual arguments he had with one other player.  It's a team issue as far as dealing with it sure, but I've never heard anyone say Smitty was anything other than a great team member.

I recall that he had some issues with "mentoring" Dwayne Jarrett, but I'm pretty sure that Smitty had a pretty low opinion of Jarrett's effort and stated he wasn't going to help someone who didn't put forth effort...

Was it ever resolved as to why Dez walked off the field a few weeks ago?  I'm not saying that the guy isn't a good teammate, I honestly don't know... he's a Cowboy so I probably wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire...

From what I've seen of Dez, I wouldn't really want him on the Panthers.  He just seems like a "me first" kind of player honestly, pretty much the exact opposite of guys like TD, DWill, Gross, etc.  I feel that way about a lot of players for different reasons.  I wouldn't want Tom Brady on the Panthers... yes, he's arguably the greatest QB of all time... but I think he's an arrogant douche and would not want to root for him.

3:15 and onward... 8:00 (sort of) talks about the fights.

Smitty is a locker room cancer. Riiiight.

That statement alone tells me you don't get it.

At what point in the video does it show Smith walking away from his teammates?

im not gonna argue back in forth with a stubborn, condescending poster.

ill finish with this....if it was dez bryant who punched out 3 teammates sending them to the hospital and him to jail. you would be singing a different tune about "cancer in the lockerroom."

but please continue.

But calling someone 'old man' isn't condescending at all, right?

Dez is still a young guy, yeah he isn't perfect, but who is? He's a play maker.

If I'm being honest, the best thing for his career would be to get out of Dallas. That is the exact opposite of a stable environment.

That I'll give you. Dallas is the wrong environment for anyone with maturity issues. That's about as effective as battling alcoholism in a bar.

He may be better down the road somewhere, but given the issues he's got and that we have a need at the position, I'm not real interested in us rehabbing him. I'd rather start fresh on a kid with no baggage.

If we were in a better position roster-wise, then a reclamation project might be okay. Right now? No.

That, plus I'm not a big fan of going the FA / trade route for receivers anyway. That's a position better addressed via the draft.
