Kuechly not a Probowler according to PFF

The big controversy. Have we forgot about Luke Kuechly? Not so and while the world likes to pin the success of a unit on one player, the truth is the Panthers’ defense is more about the collective than any one individual. So while Kuechly has played well, we’re not going to let the hype do the 49ers duo, the excellent Johnson and the criminally underrated Dansby out of a spot. Kuechly, Kiko Alonso, Sean Lee and Stephen Tulloch were all considered for the final spot, but the playmaking of Dansby (he leads his position with eight sacks and 10 pass break ups) made our minds up for us.

Sometimes these guys go full retard. Direct any questions to @PFF_Sam

Football is the ultimate team sport and he's right to a degree, but how is that different than any other player? Also, look at the turnaround that happened the game Luke moved to the middle. To try to dismiss any direct correlation between those two is impossible. Luke is as deserving as anyone in the league.

If you want to take issue with something take on the OLB in 43 vs 34 because TD and Lavonte David not going is a catastrophe.

Good comment from the article itself:

PFF does not take into account a players assignment, the difficulty of the task, the difficulty of the opposition. So some average Guard who plays against Casey, Watt, Wilfork, Wilkerson, Atkins and Campbell over a 6 week stretch ends up looking like the worst player in the league vs. the Guard who played against a bunch of nobodies over the same span of time.
They try to make their analysis as objective as possible but they are also not privy to the defensive and offensive playcalls so they are not always positive of what the assignment of a player was on any given play. This impacts the secondary grades quite a bit, especially the safeties.
They also do not use any discretion when a penalty is called against a player.....so if a lineman gets called for holding and it is a really bad call, it doesn't matter as PFF dings him anyway.
There are other shortcomings as well.

One thing I have never understood about pff is if they don't have the exact playbook, how do the know 100% who screwed up on a play. I can see situations where players get downgraded when it wasn't their responsibility. Maybe there is more to their numbers than I know but that's why I've never really worried about their rankings

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
