Thoughts from game one...

Who Said What?

Recommended Posts

I re-watched game one against the 49ers, and I picked up on some things that really had me thinking about the divisional match-up.

1.  I hope Chase Blackburn plays up to the level AJ Klein did in the first meeting.  Klein played almost mistake free.  He played fast and stout at the point of attack.  When he dropped into coverage, he didn't get beat once.  It was easy to see because obviously they were game planning to try and expose the rookie.

2.  We really had some big miscues on the o-line by Chandler, and I believe that he has progressed on the basic mental assignments that he struggled with in that game.

3.  There were some crucial drops that stalled some promising drives.

4.  We completely owned Kaepernick.  He looked horrible and the only play they didn't make was the drop by the TE towards the end of the third.  Other than that, we dominated their offense and kept them super uncomfortable.

5.  If we make the plays we didn't(i.e. pass drops, int drops, and routine 0-line blitz pick-up), we will dominate this game.

Kaepernick is still a one read QB who only excels against terrible defenses.  I am not worried about their gameplan as our defense matches up against their offense better than any defense in the league.  Why would we struggle against Michael Crabtree when we have faced far superior recievers all season?  Analysts should be choosing Carolina!

watch it not long ago as well... great notes! i will add "no butterfingers" and Cam must keep that ball down!... on a side note we might sneak McNutt in there as well as B.Williams. if we pound them, we can then own them in the deep play action. i don't fear their secondary for some reason.

I forgot that Cap dropped the easy interception on the first damn drive

The thing is that could have started a blow out.  Kaepernick would have been shook down 0-7.  Analysts say that we are not built to comeback, but San Fran definately is not built to comeback against our defense.

Anyone else starting to get this feeling that the media is setting this up to make us the David vs. Goliath story?

Follow me here, if they are all right (the national media) then they have lost nothing. If they are wrong ( they will be ) the narrative will be " Wow, nobody but the Panthers saw this coming, the Carolina Panthers, the giant killers."

My point? Its a win win.

49ers win = all knowing media

Panthers win = gives our story a edge that can translate into an underdog storyline.

Idk, just a thought.

The last thing they want to do is take the ball out of Frank Gore's hands

It's going to be a really tough game, guys. And there's a decent chance we lose.

It'll be fun to watch, but stressful.

Yes the operative word watching any playoff game your team is in and especially this one..........stressful.

Like a wife or mother watching their son in the middle of a pack of open wheel race cars at the Indy 500......

hehe........and when the game is all over if the Cats win............what's the first thing a stressed out drained fan says??

That was great!...........lol!

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
