The problem is that you can't tender Hardy as he is an unrestricted free agent.  Tenders are only used with restricted free agents. Maybe we need to keep who we have.  So much for huddler wisdom.

whatever dude- unlike yourself I dont come here to cyber brawl - have a good one.

Clearly we aren't going agree about anything it would appear.  What you think is gospel,I think is crap and vice versa.  You dislike Shula and you have that right.  I just point that Gettleman likes him and thinks he did a good job. So should we believe our GM who gets big bucks to make these decisions and has been talked about as the GM of the year or a guy on the huddle who likes to argue.

HMMMMM................

Tough choice.......................

Call me Kettle, Pot!

Just because a GM is a GM doesn't mean that he/she is perfect. I'm a Gettleman guy, and I think he has done good job so far. That's what he is paid to do. I'm a member of the best football forum on the Internet, and I do what I do quite well, maturely and responsibly I might add, but I'm not perfect. Time will bare it all.  But, you would do well to remember that sometimes there can be more than one way to the right answer.

Not really seeing 55 doing anything other than correcting your egregiously wrong statements.

Yeah, I mean the entire post was pointing out how someone was so smart for suggesting we should tender Hardy....

55 merely pointed out that was impossible. Which someone had to

And if you are a Gettleman guy you would do well to spend time wondering why he kept him and what he obviously knows that you don't.

Regardless-

I now know the diference between tendering or not a unrestricted and restricted fa now - the guys explanation was still a good one if the unrestricted or restricted parameters are corrected - one of the few cogent explanations you ever see on this board - I think the guy deserves credit for that

Turned the ball over a lot more and had more 3 and outs.....that is what that sounds like. I'd much rather win than make the ESPN Top 10 for one highlight play mixed in with a lot of slop. You remember the one Chud-like called game? They pretty went downfield to Ginn all game. That was a loss in Buffalo.

Gettelmen addressed today about Barner. That wasn't Shula... even with a hurt Stewart there are too many guys ahead if Barner. Other guys are green and raw. There were reasons they weren't on the field.

How many respected offensive players spoke out about Chud's offense? 89 had better numbers under Chud.....he prefers Shula. He wants to win....not have meaningless yards.

I could be wrong, but it sounds to me a lot like you're saying that we should limit the offense for fear of fuging up. That's not necessarily the formula for success.

I don't think any yards are "meaningless" as teams are always waging an underlying battle of field position. But, for argument's sake, even if I accept your premise, I wholly believe that more "meaningful" yards and wins are not mutually exclusive. We can have both. Why would we want any less? A 28th ranked, chicken poo offense being lead by arguably the most physically gifted QB in the game is not the goal, but we'll see what G-man does to improve personnel, as well as see what Shula does with his new offensive toys. Excuses are perhaps justified this past year, but next season I am looking for better results (and that includes next January).

I'm saying I support doing what wins games....

We had a limited team around Cam. Shulaball, while unsexy, played to the teams biggest strength. That was smart and it resulted in wins.

If you look at what Shula did PER OFFENSIVE DRIVE....we were top 10. It worked and allowed our D to be elite.

Gets some run blocking Gs and a power game RB and Shula will thirve.....bc unlike in Tampa he has Cam

you guys seem to forget we are still paying Beason 8 million in 2014

As pointed out earlier in this thread, we aren't paying Beason anything in 2014 and haven't since the day we traded him.

Don't confuse the dead money that will hit the cap in 2014 with his pay. The $8 million is dead money hitting our books that was paid to Jon a long time ago.

I appreciate it. Admittedly I was mistaken in that I thought players became restricted after three or more years of service. Apparently it's EXACTLY three years, after that they become unrestricted.

So, unfortunately, Hardy would be unrestricted - having four years of service - so the only options are the exclusive and non-exclusive franchise tags.

Our best bet would probably be the non-exclusive tag. Obviously that calls for two firsts as compensation, but we could settle for less (1 first?).

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
