You aren't getting the point.

Your trying to make a point that isn't there. Shula gives Cam the freedom to change plays improvise or take off running. That is part of the plan. Unlike Chud who forced Cam to run the called play and gave him no flexibility to do his thing. Cam gives much of the credit for his success to Shula.

The fact that Cam has the ability to stretch plays and get yards on scrambles is what makes him as good as he is. Shula recognizes that and embraces it. But Cam athletic exploits don't take away from Shula or make him a bad OC.

This reminds me of all the debates regarding Smith making Delhomme. Sure Smitty made circus catches but Jake knew he would so all he had to do was lob it up there and let Smitty do his thing. When an OC makes good use of their resources they are smart and deserve credit when they work because they surely get blame when they don't.

So what you're saying is that Shula calls long developing plays with a questionable OL so that Cam can make 5 people miss in the backfield and pick up some yards with his legs?

Brilliant.

So... Thats 90 points we got this season only because Cam's legs were able to keep the drive alive when everything else broke down.

Take away those 90 points.... where does our offense rank? What would our record have been?

prove our offense offends me! haha seriously though that actually justifies some of the hate and being looked over we see. However it proves Cam is more productive than those clowns they compared him to with better weapons. GET THIS KID SOME HELP!

you cant just say remove cam's scrambles and the 90 points they generated and judge the rest of the offense because: 1. you assume no one else would have picked up the the slack. 2. one score can change the direction of the game. you never know what might have happened if we punted, it could be blocked or we could recover a fumble on the one. 3. one first down in a drive doesn't mean you're sole responsible for the points: how many first downs did olsen have? take those points away and where do we rank. how many first downs did gross block well one... etc etc. each piece plays and a part.

Is that really what you got out of my post?  Shula gave Cam a play option and Cam called the play.  From that point there a number of possibilities.  Maybe the short quick developing routes were covered, maybe Cam saw single coverage on the outside and wanted to wait for a big play down the field, maybe the line didn't do their job or a blitz was called. Maybe it was something else. Do you understand what a route tree or an audible or hot read are??  There are long and short options available on every pass play.

Of course Shula didn't tell Cam to hold the ball so that he could make a spectacular play with his legs when the defense started closing in. Or call only long slow developing plays.  If you look at the difference between the average yards per pass attempt this year versus last year (which have gone down significantly) you would know Shula has been the one preaching to get the ball out more quickly.  So no I am not saying anything even close to that and I find is hilarious that anyone would think anyone of the sort.

I look forward to see what kind of off the wall convoluted response you have to this post.

Good luck trying to using logic with these guys.  On a drive with 5 first downs they assume the one Cam got with his scramble was all that counts and the resultant touchdown was due to that scramble and not all the other plays that were called on that drive.  Therefore Shula had nothing to do with it and therefore sucks. They are totally oblivious to the fact that you can't separate Cam and Shula from the offense as they are totally intertwined.  And they say Shula sucks even though Cam himself is very high on Shula and credits him for his progress over the past 3 years.

And all that doesn't even touch on the argument that 16 scrambles out of a total of almost 1000 plays represents less than 2% of the plays. I wonder who taught Cam to read defenses and run the offense? He didn't get it from Gus at Auburn and Chud didn't let him.

I think Shula needs to go. His has no awareness in terms of what he has on the field and what works. Our team had substantial success when running screen plays. It seemed like the screen was an idea that came and went with Shula.

Also, I was irked by plays that saw Tolbert getting the ball while moving laterally. Those should have been scratched. DW does very well getting outside and finding the corner. Tolbert does very well in space running down hill. These things are very clear and it seemed that Shula didn't quite grasp them.

As a Panther fan, having an awful offense is nothing new. I just would have never thought in my wildest dreams that I'd miss the play calling of Dan Henning.
