Honest assessment

I really don't see how Ryan, Turner or White are a better combo than Jake, Williams/Stewart. and Smith. Sure Ryan has a ton of potential but so far he hasn't even won a playoff game, Turner is much more likely to have an injury given his overuse while we at least have a back-up, and White has had one pro-bowl year.

NO has a great offense but points wise they averaged 3 more points a game than we did. Somehow I believe our defense is worth 3 points compared to theirs. Last year we were pretty awful and we were still 4 points better. Plus Brees actually gets worse in the fourth quarter not better like Jake.

As for Tampa, who even knows what they have at this point.

Truth is that Atlanta was lucky to be healthy as well and New Orleans was hit by the injury bug. No need to think we are more injury prone than anyone else.

You analysis appears more "chicken little" than realistic to me.

Agree 100%...

There are only 2 games different in Carolina's and Atlanta's schedule. We have Arizona/Minnesota, while Atlanta has SF/Chicago.

Given the addition of Cutler and the non-addition of Favre, Minnesota and Chicago are a toss-up for the NFCN division. Advantage: Even

At first glance, we have a tougher game in Arizona than Atlanta does in SF. However, I think they will be more closely matched than some think. Arizona had a magical run last season...but were not a good team in the regular season. They lost to damn near every good team they played. SF is improving and could be just as good.

And, we all know that the SB loser struggles mightily the following season.

Quite frankly, I think the Seahawks (if they stay healthy) will vault back into the drivers seat in the NFCW this season.

So, throw the schedule arguement between Atlanta and Carolina squarely out the window.

If anyone has an advantage via schedule, it is NO.

They finished last in 2008, and thus get Detroit/St Louis. They have the only advantage in schedule in the NFCS this year.

I might get exiled for this but I'm not a big fan of our WR corps.

SS is awesome but you take him away and are you really worried about Moose one on one?

Jarrett? This is THE year to show us what you got.

I'm gonna keep banging this drum but Red Zone D is where it's all at along with lack of depth on the lines.

moose's biggest seasons with carolina have been the seasons when steve smith wasn't around...and his numbers for those seasons rival smith's.

i'm not convinced jarrett will ever be more than a red zone 3rd down threat. he has little or next to no ability to make plays after catching the ball.

true but thats all we need Jarrett to be.. so long as Smitty and our freakish running game is around.

    • Not exactly sure that is an honest assesment of the talent he had to work with that year. Olsen had over 1100 yards that season making the PB, Stewart had close to 1100 total yards also going to the PB. He had Kalil at C who went to the PB, Trai Turner at RG who also went to the PB, and Michael Oher at LT who played well enough that the Panthers offered him a new contract the following year. I wouldn't call that a trash OL. He also played with a defense that was stacked with talent as well.   "The thing we are doing better this time around is actually surrounding our #1 overall draft pick QB with talent vs. asking him to completely carry the offense. I just hope that effort is leading us to realize that the guy isn't even good enough to get carried." Please.... Did you not read the list of names Newton had to work with his rookie season. I guess you missed it so I will post it again for you... Steve Smith (PB), Greg Olsen (PB), Brandon LaFell, Ted Ginn JR, Deangelo Williams (PB), Jonathan Stewart (PB), Jordan Grossn (PB), Ryan Kalil (PB) on the offensive side and then he had Luke Kuechly (PB), Jon Beason (PB), Thomas Davis (PB), Star Lotulelei, Kawann Short ( PB ),Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy (PB ), Mike Mitchell, Josh Norman (PB)  For comparison, here is who Young had his first year.  Chuba Hubbard, DJ Chark, Jonathan Mingo, Adam Thielen, Hayden Hurst, Ikem Ekwonu, Chandler Zavala, Bradley Bozeman, Nash Jensen and Taylor Morton. Not a single PB player on the list and most of them aren't even playing any longer. Additionally, his HC was fired during the season and the defense was as bad as the offense.  You might not like the comparison but saying Newton had to completely carry the offense isn't exactly fair to the 4 pro bowlers on offense who played with him that year.
    • That's why I say we have to keep looking. Even if you believe Bryce is the guy, KP and Grier are not and who knows if King is anything more than a gimmick player, we should be active in improving our 2nd QB spot. Season ending injuries happen, and you don't just want to roll over and give it up. How many starters have we seen come from the ranks of backup? Having 2 potential starting QBs is one of the best problems we could have.
    • Eh, it’s more on how bad the refs are. Some of these calls against the canes are no calls
