PJ or Rodney ?

Parker is the only Duke player in the last 8-10 years I'd take over PJ.

Not sure there's a single UNC player since Carter I'd take over him. Maybe Marvin because he had huge potential but that's it.

PJ is going to be an all-star. He was the #4 recruit in the country. Sat on the bench for a year and a half then exploded once he got big minutes.

Only concern is his maturity. People bashed Roy for not playing him more but he obviously had good reasons.

Hood. All day. And I think PJ has the potential to come in and be a nice player, possibly great 6th man or play a Danny Green role.

Hairston was maddeningly inconsistent. Even once he started playing starter minutes, he was either off or on without much middle ground shooting wise. PJ was/is tough and plays bigger than his height, but Hood's height, athleticism, and length stand out more. His defense has made great strides the past few games as well and it seems he has the maturity and drive that PJ has none of, judging off his previous actions.

Just for shits and giggles, going off either their most recent, or current college season...

Player A - 51% FG, 44.8% from 3, 84.4% FT

Player B - 43.1% FG, 39.6% from 3, 77.9% FT

Player A is Hood. A better shooter and overall player without the question marks IMO. As I said, Hairston was seemingly either lights out or chucking poo up. Both have great potential, but Hood's may be higher, without the question marks.

Hood is not impressive to me at all when I've watched him.  Maybe it's just their system or whatever, but what sold me on PJ was this:

2013 ACC Tournament: First-team All-Tournament selection • Averaged 20.7 points, shot 19 for 38 from the floor (.500) and 13 for 27 (.481) from three-point range • Tied his career-high with six three-pointers and scored 28 points in championship game vs. Miami • The 28 points are the most by a Tar Heel in an ACC championship game since Charles Scott had 40 against Duke in 1969 • The six three-pointers tied UNC's record for three-pointers in an ACC Tournament game (with Jason Capel and Harrison Barnes) • Won Carolina's defensive player of the game award vs. Miami (his fourth of the season) • Had 13 points against Maryland, playing a career-high 36 minutes despite wearing a bandage on his left hand due to the laceration he suffered against FSU • Led all scorers with 21 against Florida State • Made 7 of 11 shots from the floor, including five of six from three-point range • Three-point percentage of .833 was the best by a Tar Heel this season • Made four three-pointers in the first half that helped UNC to an eight-point lead at the break • Suffered a tear in his left hand with 4:13 to play that led to eight stitches between his middle and ring fingers.

He turned it up when it counted, and maybe it wasn't turning it up, so much as finding his groove and playing with confidence.  I think once he figured it out, he FIGURED IT OUT.  Not saying he is or will be MJ, but MJ wasn't MJ until he hit that shot against Georgetown in the tourney.  To me, that's what PJ did.  He became a killer in the ACC tourney, and then it just took him to another level from there on.  Combine that with Roy saying that in practice PJ was the best perimeter player he had ever seen in his years as a coach...  He's got "it."

I've mentioned before how in all of our drafts, I was generally very accurate in who I thought would and wouldn't be a great player.  PJ is going to be a great player.

It depends on who is the better ball handler for me.

Both can shoot and both are athletic. Rodney is longer and better defensively.

PJ already has a NBA body.

So who ever handles the ball better is my choice.

Hood is a better defender? I know you don't judge defense of stats but Hairston had 6 steals in his first NBADL game...

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
