Taxes question

So I've always filed my own taxes and haven't really thought about using a service until this year. I dont really know what ,if any benefit they have. They claim you get more money, but how?? Im just an average working guy I don't have kids, I'm not married. I don't own a business nor do I travel for work.

I donate about 300 bucks a year to various charities but thats the only deduction I know about.

Am I missing alot of stuff to get a higher tax return that a tax prep could catch?? And if so what is it that they do. If its something I can do myself what should I look for?

Nope. Highly unlikely you are missing anything.

 

Buy turbotax if you like and it will walk you through everything just in case. I think it even has a free version for super simple tax folks like you.

On h&r blocks software they have a meter that lets you know when to stop cheating.

Do you own a house or do you rent?

 

If you rent, you are probably even claiming the standard decutions and not itemizing..thus the charities would not help you.

 

Based on your situation above, absolutely do NOT pay a service.  Use turbotax and you will be done in about 10 minutes.
