Two sides of the hardy/orakpo tag scenario

Just picked up on this, interesting because it's a similar situation to us, tie up a talented guy with a franchise tag or use the money for possibly three other starters as it's mentioned here, I do think the redskins are a bad team and need more work doing to repair there roster than ours, but just a different perspective on keeping a good player with the tag scenario or thinking about doing it the other way.

Interesting and I can see the logic from both sides, so what would you do?

So tired of Panther fans desperately trying to get rid if one of the best DEs in the league for rookies who may take up to 3 years to develop, if thy don't turn out to be busts.

Ridiculous.

No one wants to get rid of Hardy. No one.

However, given our current contracts on the books a one year 13 million dollar contract for Hardy would be "ridiculous".

Where in the thread did I say I want to get rid of hardy? I'm just showing there's two sides to the argument of a tag or to let a guy go, it's just perspective, in know way am I condemning the panthers for decision to tag him either, it's just good to get fans feedback on what they would do given the choice.

There is little downside to this tag. We can manipulate the cap to include Hardy this year and honestly with the dead cap space coming off the books and with CJ having to restructure or he will be gone next year, we needed Hardy more than ever. One thing the tag does is keep us from having paying any guaranteed money which turns into dead cap space if we release him.  He plays as hard or harder than he did this year because he is still in a contract year and once he sees we are going to keep him he will negotiate a long term deal or we will trade him and get picks.  His tag won't kill us moving forward because we haven't really tried to even squeeze all the money we can.

Fair comment well said.

Protects the Panthers in case he gets hurt this year too.

    • First, am I wrong? I looked back over all his posts here and I didn't see anything positive other than Shough. Second, pretty sure if you had read the post I was responding to, you would have seen CRA made poo personal as well . You just choose to address me instead of him. Not sure why?????
    • I wanted XL but I felt he should have been a 2nd rounder but I understand the logic trading up just to get the option. A safety net for your gamble.    Certainly disappointed with his receivers development but i like his down field blocking and I imagine that's what's keeping him on the field.
    • Pretty sure it is a given Young lacks typical QB size and strength and he is here simply because his other attributes more than make up for it. My point is not to indicate anyone "settled" for him but rather to remind people that there have been plenty of big, strong QB's that have not lived up to expectations. Jamis Winston, Anthony Richardson, Trey Lance, JaMarcus Russel are a few examples. They all have the physical attributes coveted by teams and yet none have had sustained success in the NFL. And yes, there are QBs that do have both but there aren't many and some of the ones still playing were failures with their early teams. Saying Young is a bust simply based upon his size (and I do think it is as simple as that for a few guys around here) is unfair to both him and the team.
