VIDEO- Greg Hardy On ESPN First Take

From a football standpoint, you'd love to sign him back.  From a business standpoint, you have a 1, 3, and 5 year plan.

Your team is good, therefore you have the common highlights that get your guys noticed and they get expensive.  A catch 22 here.

CJ, Hardy, Cam, Luck, Star, then some new WR we bring in this year and don't forget the OLine.

It is hard for any team to pay all the guys max contracts.

A winning team has to have a mix of guys making big bucks and guys like Hardy "has" been, which is contributing like a big bucks guy even though he makes less.

If we pay him 8 figures a year, then you have the prospect of losing out on some of the other guys above.

It is sort of a pick your poison, but some teams always screw up the deal, like Chicago paying too much for Cutler and Detroit too much for Stafford.  Now guys like Kap think they can also cash in.

Unless the cap goes up by 10 mill each year, it will be very tough to navigate.

Again from a business standpoint, it might be better to let Hardy get his 12 million per season from someone like Oakland in a trade while we sign Jared Allen to a 2yr, 10 million deal.  This leaves us 7 per year to sign maybe a FA left tackle like Collins.

That dude is so awesome.  Really glad we at least have him for one more year.

I hope we work something out long term.  This is the guy who can take that mentality and fire Smith has always had and keep it in our locker room.  Hardy is a winner, those are the kind of guys you need to keep on your roster.

Just got through watching this. It really just shows how smart Greg really is and he really is a good person and a good man. He owned Skip when he said "education is important." The "Kraken" persona is just part of his thing, mainly on the field. He becomes that and it unleashes his inner emotions and abilities and lets him forget his fears and put it all out on the field. All players need something like this to excel at the game. Of course it doesn't have to have a unique name or title like "Kraken," but players need this. Smitty has it. Luke has it. Cam has it. Star has it. Mitchell has it. (Jonathan Martin certainly doesn't have it) It's what players need to be great and step up their game. I love Hardy and hope we can get a long term deal done soon, and hopefully he'll take around or less than $10M, because we really need the cap space. The defense wouldn't be the same without him, that's for sure. Even at $13M I'm glad we're keeping him.

    • Narratives change real fast because of how fast information travels these days and the need to generate clicks.  People said the Panthers were a great place for him to land but just because it was said doesn't make it true.  Was that true?  Did we have an All-star staff?  Did we have a good front office?  Did we surround him with talent?  Could the defense carry the load?  You have to squirt really hard to think it was just a bad rookie QB stinking it up all by his lonesome.   Saying the worst football teams have bad QB's is just low handing fruit.  It's the easiest thing to grab onto.  It could also be teams that have a bad coaching staff or no talent to surrounding the QB or a horrible front office.  It can also be a horrible QB.  To this day I think that T-Law going to the Jags might have ruined his career because of Urban Meyer.  I don't agree at all that Bryce's only good game of his entire career was against the Falcons.   Week 16 against the Cards (which is one of those last 3 games we mentioned) 36-30 OT win.  Threw 3 TD's Week 12 against KC 30-27 loss but Bryce went 24 of 35 for 263 yrds.  It was Mahomes magic that got us. Week 10 against the Bucs 298 yards in a close game with a passing TD and a running TD. We even had those flashes of what he could be in 2023 against the Packers, the 95-yard game winning drive vs the Falcons, or how he outplayed CJ Shroud with the win over the Texans. Especially in this respect you're not being truthful.
    • It's wild but there have been people placing most of the blame on Renfrow.
    • Right now he’s a little more advanced Anthony Richardson.
