Is the Gettie trying to do too much too quickly?

Is the 12-4 season getting to him? I think Gross retirement was the way his contract was handled.... I suspect since there was no true cap savings on getting rid of our #1 receiver that this must have been a testosterone contest between the two and Gettie is going to release him.... He did well with the draft and brought in decent lower tier FAs but this offseason it appears near implosion.

Actually, if Hurney didn't screw us with the contracts, I think he should be doing more.  Marginal improvement won't get us over the hump.  Looking forward to seeing who he brings in.  DG said that free agency is for filling holes so we are not drafting with any glaring needs.  If that holds true, we are signing DBs, WRs and OT(s).  Will we go big this week or wait for the market to cool down.?.

If you think we are doing a lot, check out the Saints recent moves.

Lets say you worked for the Panthers for a long time and got hired on as the GM for the Cowboys or something.  You would not have any emotional ties to the players and you would see things objectively, not through team colored glasses.  I think this is what is happening.

Our offense was ineffective last season... Failing to score more than 13 points in many games. 12-4 record is all defense. DG is rebuilding our entire offense. We cannot do any worse offensively this year than last year.

Without a pro bowl vet LT and legendary WR you wana bet?

It's not about the decisions that are being made, it's the way he has handled the decisions.  Respect is a two way street.  The tone has been set, hopefully Cam is okay with these moves because if not, we could be in trouble.

Speaking of, when is the almightly G-Man going to get some weapons for Cam.  As "bad" as Smitty may have been, he was still our best receiver by far.  We're taking steps backwards, and I'm sure come season time it'll be blamed on Cam.  Maybe it's a ploy to drive down Cam's number once his season isn't as statistically impressive with no weapons to work with?

Gross retired... he was not cut by DG so don't blame DG for LT issues.  Legendary WR don't win you games, playmakers do.  Unfortunately, Steve Smith is a shell of a playmaker.  Watching Smitty getting chased down by linebackers last year was painful to watch.  Smitty is no more than #2 or #3 WR but he's getting paid like top 10 WR in the league.  If you insert smitty as your #1 WR, you guranteed a limp dick offense.  Team's will single cover slow Smitty, allowing them to bring safeties closer to line of screamage and take away our run game (something that happened A LOT last year).  They will be able to effectively blitz Cam and completely destroy our offense.  You add 2 fast WR that can stratch the field on each side, defenses will have to move safeties deep for extra support.  Less blitzer and better run game.

Last year I witness many times when teams would blitz their corner and their LB would perfectly cover Smitty.  LB on WR should be a mismatch and should lead to at least 1st down but it wasn't many times.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
