For people who are angry with Dave Gettleman..

Why should a player take a pay cut for loyalty when the team has made it clear that they only care about business?

In football, success = winning. Some players want to win. I know that is a foreign concept here in NC, but not for long. We have a GM and QB that are willing to do what it takes to achieve success on the field. It might take another season or two, but it's happening.

Upset with 8-8?  Well, I'll be thrilled with 8-8 at this point.  Just who the fug is Cam going to throw the ball to?  I've never cared for 89 and his mouth and antics, but he is the best WR on the team, period.  To fug around with him and not even talk to him about his future during the yearly exit talk was straight bullshit.

The three stooges named Rivera, Shula, and Gettleman caught lightning in a bottle last season, but they'll continue the sordid historical trend of no back-to-back winning seasons for this franchise, all while the clueless owner is concerned how he can make the "league" logo bigger at midfield and the bottom line on the balance sheet, winning be damned.

To be fair he was treated more like family for the past 10 years. Only in the past year has this organization shifted to a more business mindset which is what I perfer. We all know what happens when you treat your business like family, you get 6-10 and 8-8. If you want to win you gotta be more business if you want 12-4.

If Gettleman is a genius who deserves unwavering allegiance then why did the Giants pass on him as GM several times?

If Smitty was disruptive to the team as a leader then why did I hear so many players talk about how special the locker room was last year on "This is Gross"?

I'm waiting to see how this turns out before I get too excited but many of you make a pretty weak argument for the benefits of cutting Smith AND losing a couple million of cap space in the process.

Can someone explain to me how cutting our best receiving option and paying 2 million dollars is a good idea?

It's not a good idea.  Too many on here think the sun rises and sets in the crack of Richardson's ass, and whatever comes out of 800 South Mint Street is the gospel truth and beyond reproach.  They can't see what a greedy bitter old man Richardson is and how the emphasis isn't on winning at all and never has been....it is all about the $$$.

Anyone remember Hugh Culverhouse and the Bucs?  Well-respected by his fellow owners and made a boatload of money, and didn't give a tinkers damn about winning.  That's Jerry Richardson in a nutshell, but he has his lame-assed stories about starting Hardees and playing with Johnny U's jockstrap to distract the masses.

I think G-man is sending a message to Richardson.

Several times? They passed on him once, when they hired Jerry Reese to replace Ernie Accorsi (who chose Gettleman as a candidate).

As far as explaining why it's a good idea, no one can explain that right now because no one knows what our plans are for the future.  The only way to show whether or not it was a good idea is to wait and see if we have a winning team or not.

When you win, everyone has a higher expectation to win again.  So since Gettleman had success in his first year (against the odds), you should expect him to keep making the decisions that will allow us to keep winning.

I'm just asking if anyone can explain the possible merits of cutting Smith and paying a couple million dollars as opposed to keeping him on the team another year.

Damn, it sounds like you aren't even a Panther fan.  I really don't think this was a move by Jerry Richardson to save some money.  It's funny to me that you call him greedy.  It's always the other guy thats greedy...

I really think your perception of Richardson is completely wrong, but I guess you choose to blame him for all of our losing seasons..

i just dont understand where you get the idea that JR is so involved in the football operations, that he is able to influence the people, whose jobs depend on winning, to not care about winning and only consider the money.  You just sound like a huge hater.
