WR Kevin Cone To Work Out For Carolina

Black

Recommended Posts

every other team in the legue looks at this guy (and every other guy in our WR corps) and thinks, maybe i can squeeze them into our practice squad.

meanwhile, we have to ask if he is the next victor cruz and/or if he'd make a decent starter.

sad.

This guy's measurables are sick.

http://www.thefalcoholic.com/2012/3/6/2845395/why-kevin-cone-may-be-a-factor-at-wide-receiver-in-2012

"First of all, Cone has quality speed. He ran about a 4.4 40 yard dash and never had his wheels questioned in college out of Georgia Tech's vaunted triple option, though he didn't catch a ton of passes. What makes him really intriguing as a slot receiver is that speed paired with sure hands further paired with excellent size (6'2", 215 pounds). Putting him inside on a nickel corner seems almost unfair.

Of course, you may be skeptical given his lack of production and the fact that he's one year off of being a UDFA, which I understand. But the Falcons are going to sink some serious money into the offensive and defensive lines this off-season and may need to replace a couple of pieces at linebacker, which isn't going to leave them a ton of money to go after a top-flight slot guy. With Julio, Roddy and Tony Gonzalez dominating the attention of other teams' defenses, putting a high-upside matchup problem at the slot just creates more headaches for those teams. I think all he really needs is a shot."

    • Not just Dalton.   But the only real young arm they would let be seen the past 2 years was a really a bad Jack Plummer.  Who was super weak even for that tier  Can’t convince me how weak they made the atmosphere around Young hasn’t been intentional.
    • Things of note: mentions he has six drops. Six. For all the people that don’t know what a drop is, he has six. That’s a long distance from the league leader at ten. (To be fair, pro football reference has him at seven, still not bad.  Plenty of others is that same range.  His drop % is 6.3, which is low.) Catchable ball success ratio: 83% which is great. Catchable being the key word.  Mentions his contested catch rate is low at 5/18 but that’ll get better I think when he can rely on muscle memory for routes, catches, etc and the game slows down for him
    • I'd honestly take The Golden Calf of Bristol over Young. You know you can design an O around his skillset to win you games. Plus, as a bonus, said O would wear him down within 3 years so you could move on from him.
