Why has Hardy not be signed to a long term contract?

Let me preface this by saying this not a love or hate Gettleman thread.

I assumed we tagged him thinking we would sign him to a long term deal versus a one year rental

Does anyone know why this has not happened or understand why we would want to wait? I cannot imagine us tagging him thinking we would get nothing but a 1 year rental/ The chances a very thin for a trade so what is the deal?

Keeping him tagged until after the draft gives us leverage for draft picks and gives us more options in possible trades if the FO believes terms cannot be met.

Also, in lieu of a trade, we would be on the hook for signing bonus which is something we want to avoid.

Just smart business.

Ok, but I am not following your logic

Its pretty obvious he wants so much money that tendering him is actually better for us. Since we didn't want him to walk for nothing it was our only choice. If you have a guy wanting 18 mil a year then tendering is our only option if we want to keep him another year. Its not like he's willing to sign for ten million a year and DG is just dragging his feet.

I understand that but would it not be to our advantage to make this happen now?

So you are suggesting that we tagged him not knowing what it would take to get a deal done? Just asking not trying to be a smart ass
Yes. Tagging is about getting more time. It is a gamble. At least we know we know he will play for us in 2014. Sent from my SGH-T989 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

Ok but I am not following you logic

Keeping him tagged garners us 2 first round draft picks in a trade.

Signing him to a long-term may not be feasible at this stage, especially when considering the upcoming contracts of Cam and Kuechly. It may be wise, though incredibly unfortunate and downright blasphemous, to trade Hardy for some unproven rookies!! I would be so friggin pissed if this went down!!!

Anyway...

As everyone knows, there is a lot of money tied up in our ends and even though it is quite the luxury, we still have team needs to fill that could be addressed with that money saved up for Hardy...such as OL, S, & WR. If worse comes to worse and we decide to make a trade, draft picks is the way to go and it would get us off the hook for his signing bonus that would immediately count against our cap.

Get it, got it? Logical enough or do I have to repeat myself a third time?

    • There is a Grand Canyon-sized chasm between your opinion and the opinions of most former player hockey guys who do this for a living.
    • I can only imagine the **** eating grins on the committee right now. "Oh, Bama didn't deserve it? Oh, Miami didn't deserve it? Suck it, haters!" lol
    • To say that, is gaslighting, because it isn’t true. I mean, maybe one or two people do that but it isn’t the predominant behavior. Even Frank has given him credit. I think particularly the Rams game. A couple of glowing posts.   I know I have. Gotta be honest about it because if you aren’t it undermines what else you say.  But the degree of how far I go with credit, in terms of it being a projection of future performance? Not very far. Acknowledge it, but require more of it. There is a lot of bad play to offset.    I tried to remain passive while the last 9 games (post ankle injury) played out. It is just really hard when the lows won’t go away. I failed. As high as a couple of those highs were, there isn’t enough.    I know it is premature to just say I want to move on, made my decision after 6 of those games ended up pretty much really good or not good enough, but I have had enough of being patient and letting him show the reality either way.  So in my view, he Could still validate himself to a decent degree if he smokes the last three starts. But also in my view I don’t expect to see it. Maybe one more high quality start, would be my expectation. So yes he could still somehow justify having the job next year. If that happened I still wouldn’t have much faith given the last three years and all that has transpired. Again, there is a lot of bad play to offset.
