I think you gotta let him walk after next year most likely. He had a great season but I don't think he's someone you necessarily build around.
-
Canes lose a game and we get a new thread on why Rod sucks. Lol. I agree though. Eventually something does have to give. Team is overall playing well and still has the trade deadline to optimize the roster for the playoffs. Ultimately the seeding in the Metro doesn't really matter. It's about beating the Panthers.

ColumbusCounty started following Mike Jackson
-
So I was on reddit and came across a thread that stated he had almost identical stats to Josh Norman in '15. I don't think he's on Jno's level but he was def looking like the best corner on this team since Seattle imo. If he played a whole season with that momentum he'd be a first team All pro. And speaking of AP....bear w/ me. Norman '15 (1st Team AP) vs Jackson '25 vs Horn '25 (100 mil (Pro Bowl): 4 ints vs 4 ints vs 5 ints 18 PBUs vs 19 PBUs vs 8 PBUs 56 tackles vs 68 tackles vs 37 tackles 3 FF vs 1 FF vs 0 FFs Yards Allowed 513 vs 610 vs 289 Passer Rating: 58% vs 73% vs 78.8% Targets: 58 vs 90 vs 48 Receptions Allowed: 27 vs 50 vs 34 Coverage grade: **PFF 87.8 vs 80.9 vs 63.5 Final grade:... ***PFF Norman: 83.7 (3rd highest rated corner) Jackson: 81.7 (3rd highest in the league) Horn: 59.4 (69th out of 114 corners) All that said, do we extend Jackson at this current point betting he can replicate or do we wait until his contract year(next year)? Again mind you, Horn already took 100 Mill. Or would you let guy walk and look for cheaper options?

I’m just not impressed with these hires/openings

I didn’t read that Browns article but it was stated that they are having trouble fulfilling it. Knowing the hype being pushed for clicks today, maybe it is bullshit untrue bait. Fair enough. But that brings to mind, it is conceivable that a team could be in a position where they needed a remedy for an unforeseen catch 22 type of thing such as that. Simple and logical concept: a contingency should be in place for all scenarios. poo comes - that we don’t see coming - all the time in life. If the rule needs fine tuning, tune it and move forward. -
Yeah I think he'd be a good fit on paper, but at this point I just don't see it. We should lock up T-Mac and Coker and look to add a YAC receiver through the draft or cheaper FA. XL should be released or traded for a cheeseburger. He is a net negative on the offense and draws targets from competent professional football players.

It's inarguable that CJ Stroud has a higher ceiling than Bryce. We've seen it his rookie year where he played like a top 7 QB in this league Stroud has also shown that his floor is just as low just about anyone out there. It would never, ever happen but I would still trade Bryce for him straight up if offered. you can win a Superbowl with rookie CJ stroud. I'm not sure Bryce will ever be that good unless we have the 2000s ravens team around him
-
The real problem is XL is where we drafted him. If we had taken him mid second round I think the outrage surrounding him would be far less. Not his fault they traded up (one spot) to make him a first round pick
-
I wouldn't do this. XL had a bad year but he showed a lot of promise as a rookie for a guy we KNEW was going to take some time to develop You can hate the pick if you want but now that we've got XL I would give him one more season to see if he can round into a contributor. Coleman has always struck me as a guy that was not going to put the work in to be great. might be wrong but that's my gut read on him.
-
He has had the same in SF. Based on his injuries there, he is likely overtraining and overworking himself. I know they specifically linked his long term injury at SF to overtraining specifically.
-
The issue and always will be that the Panthers have not drafted well for a long time until this past draft. Everything looks better when you have young replacement talent coming in
-
yeah idk, this is year 5 for Stafford in LA and he probably just won MVP. Meanwhile the lions have Jared good but not good enough Goff. If he collects a 2nd SB then man. Tough one to swallow.

TBH, we are weirdly lucky about extending Moton because of the injury. He has played very well still and we need RT to remain solid until we figure out LT again. We can't keep having him be a top 5 paid RT, though. -
Good lord let’s give the guy to the Bears and turn around and give them even more to buy him back? Lol. They should just give him back to us in appreciation for all we have done for them. And why do people think he wants to come back to the team that saw so little value in him that they thought they wouldn’t miss him - and shipped him out as a mere sweetener for their trade.

There literally hasn't been a recorded instance of that. There likely never would be. Taking an interview doesn't mean you have to take the job. It's just experience. -
MVQ, and MVP. It can be the same guy winning both in rare seasons. Sort of like Cy Young award and MVP in baseball. Can be the same guy but usually isn’t.
-
I'd honestly rather just trade XL for a late round pick than acquire someone else's problem child.

That is the way I see it as well. We’ve gotten in a situation with Moton and his money to where he is overpaid now and could easily become a pretty big liability with that contract if he can’t be 100% healthy. Now suddenly, we have to address LOT this year and odds are, unfortunately, we will need both OT spots filled with new guys by 2027. That will bring down the financial demands of fielding an OL and give you a chance to pay a top C. Big signing bonus with a low salary handles the finances of that for 2026 and you can have Icky off and maybe Moton too by ‘27 depending on how that all works out in the next calendar year. Hunt is just flat overpaid for what he brings to the OL. You can love him and still see that. I hope. We are looking at all this and at the same time knowing that by next year that lil QB could be an additional financial burden. - Today

This makes an interesting case for two awards: Best QB (We'll workshop the actual title) and MVP-Other.

new article " If they do opt to roll with the younger and cheaper options, the Panthers probably wouldn't bite on Moore. They've seen him get worse since trading him away, and virtually no one on the team was part of that decision or that era. Still, it would be hilarious to see Moore return home. It would also be a pretty solid addition, assuming the Bears ate some of the cost and/or it didn't require much capital to get him. A wide receiver room of Tetairoa McMillan, Jalen Coker, Moore, Xavier Legette, and Jimmy Horn Jr. would be nice." https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/onsi/news/panthers-hilarious-landing-spot-unhappy-bears-wr#:~:text=It all looks like the, much capital to get him.

BTW - this was statistically the worst season of his career. He had more yards even as a rookie. DJ and Bryce would cook. I wish we could have him back but not at his current price tag.

Panthers Fan 69 started following Sean McDermott and Rod

Both have had incredibly talented teams that have made it to the playoffs a bunch of years, but have failed to win the big one or even a conference championship. The parallels are there and at what point does ownership get tired of just being happy to be there versus getting over the hump.

What is new is a team having trouble getting people to accept interviews. No one foresaw that, I dare say. A wrinkle not considered when the rule was constructed. Not sure why anyone would resist addressing it. -
RBA honestly has more bone headed decisions these days than good ones, he is a "players coach" very good at getting guys to play hard for him and keeping them motivated.... but honestly anything that requires a modicum of strategic thinking is out of his depth. I mean he has a goalie who is a legitimate veniza candidate at this point and he insists on trotting out Freddie ".850%" every other night we would have an insurmountable lead in the metro by now if he gave Bussi all games but b2bs.
-
Rumours? He literally didn't play for us - loads of 'soft tissue' injuries.
