Game winning drives are so overrated. Back in the Delhomme days people would praise him for game winning drives but the only reason we were in that position in the first place was because he played like poo for the first 3 quarters.

Official Week 3: Panthers vs. Falcons Gameday Thread

I don't think it's patience anymore. We just don't have players so you gotta draft players who can have an impact fairly quickly because of how bad the roster is. I agree with the idea of taking some developmental guys but we have to work our way back into that shape, roster wise. -

So in order for a win to count, Bryce has to throw for 250+ yards and 3 TDs with over 10 YPA? I mean, maybe I'm just happy for a win, and I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts. Bryce wasn't great, but he did make some tough throws with rushers in his face. He missed some throws. He also had a lot of throws to Tmac where there was really good coverage. Now there's a LONG season to go. We're not making draft needs in week 3. At the end of the day, the job is up to Bryce. If he produces, wins and plays well; keep him. If not, ship him off. Here's one thing I will say about Bryce: despite his size, the game doesn't look to big for him. Sure, he doesn't have a laser cannon of an arm, but this Bryce is a lot better than the Bryce who started last year. I'm not seeing the deer in headlights when I watch the game. How many more physically gifted QBs are we watching week in and week out panic, make poor decisions and look lost? So that's one SMALL advantage I'll give Bryce. But he has to win. He has to lead the team. He's got to make plays. We'll see what happens.
-
My fear is Bryce plays just well enough to keep QB out of the equation in the first round. With so many underclassmen, it's difficult to predict how deep this QB class will be. There's definitely talent. It won't be as stacked as 2024 (which I advocated we wait for...sigh) but it sure as heck won't be 2025 or worse, 2022.
-
Sure but that’s just one week cherry pick that means what? defenses have to respect every inch of the field with Allen because what he has people he can and will do with his arm opponents cheat coverage and don’t respect routes which alters play potential for us….which we steady talk about Bryce being unable to push teams off us

Cool. So only 20 of the 24 losses? LOL
-
Bears 2023 - Eddy Piniero missed a 59-yard game-tying FG with 1:40 left. Green Bay 2023 - NFL's worst defense ruined a 300+ yard effort by allowing Jordan Love to lead a comeback with only 4:05 on the clock. Tampa 2024 - Bryce led a touchdown drive to go up by 3 with only 33 seconds left. NFL's worst defense allowed Tampa to tie in 33 seconds and then lost in OT. Kansas City 2024 - Led a touchdown drive to tie the game with 1:46 left. NFL's worst defense allowed Mahomes to drive and score a game-winning FG.

This. It's been full on struggle bus for years. Let 'em enjoy it. I'd MUCH rather win now when it might matter if we can get our act together versus winning late season throwaway games that are doing nothing but knocking us down the draft board.
-
I sure hope so. Let him leave the Panthers alone.
-
I'm happy for them. It's been a long time coming.

Tep gave birth to the soccer club, he bought the football team he'll always have his fave
-
Now how many of the 24 losses in his 31 starts would we say that Bryce was directly or partially responsible for? There have been VERY few games that we've lost where Bryce has played well and let down by the team around him.
-
In fairness, if someone is going to take away the GWDs that he did nothing, then they should add when he led what should have been GWDs but the worst NFL defense did nothing afterwards. There were several of those as well.

Offense is way down across the league -
Take what you can get. Atlanta’s D has been very tough the first two weeks and our receivers aren’t exactly setting the world on fire. We have one legit guy who can challenge the D right now and he’s a rookie who is still finding his way. The game plan to control the game with solid defense and safe offense was the right one.

It wouldn't at all surprise me if they came into this game thinking it was basically a glorified joint practice where they could get the W while trying to work on some things. It doesn't matter how bad your opponent is in the NFL you can't look past them. That team is full of guys who were all conference and all American in college and were 1st or 2nd day draft pics and guys who are making millions of dollars to play football. Yeah, they may relatively suck in relation to the rest of the league but don't get too cocky.

Yeah, I screenshotted the wrong thing. See above. It's actually worse. LOL

Sunday was a Vegas day. Nobody won money yesterday. This happens every year. Might be the Packers only loss all season. I honestly don't care what Bryce's stats are as long as we hog the clock and convert on third down. -
I'm wondering if ATL didn't think: "We need to see what we have in Penix. Carolina is so bad that they are the perfect team to try this against." Otherwise, it was pure stupidity to not just run Bijan. What's good for us and bad for them is (1) Penix is as bad as we hoped, (2) We were not as bad as we appeared in the first two games, and (3) when they switched over to Cousins, they only got evidence that he is still not their savior and, at the same time, that they will not get that "premium" price for him in a trade.

The drives: GWD1 (vs. Texans): Drive started at CAR 9 with 6:17 left down 1. Bryce was 5/6 on the drive for 50 yards. We won on a last-second FG. GWD2 (vs. Falcons): Drive started at CAR 5 with 7:35 left down 2. Bryce was 5/5 for 68 yards on the drive. We won on a last-second FG. GWD3 (vs. Saints): Drive started at CAR 36 with 3:26 left, down 5. Bryce was 1/3 for 26 yards on the drive. 22 yards were awarded for pass interferance. Chuba scored the go-ahead TD. GWD4 (vs. Giants): Drive started on NYG 23 with 9:49 left in overtime following a fumble. Chuba ran three times to set up FG; Bryce did not do anything on this drive. GWD5 (vs. Cards): Drive started on ARI 49 with 4:11 left in overtime. Chuba ran twice, the second being a touchdown. Bryce did not do anything on this drive. GWD6 (vs. Falcons): Drive started on CAR 30 with 10 left in overtime. Bryce was 5/5 for 56 yards on the drive. Of these, Bryce was directly the guy responsible in 3/6 of them (Texans, Falcons 2x), partially responsible in one of them (Saints), and had no part in the other two. Again though: you were looking at the full-game rushing yards column lol

It should have helped but they can't prop up the level of quality even with those rule changes. It helped WRs where duds can be identified really early. The QB play is so bad teams are fine with playing washed guys who still outshine the younger guys. The olines has also dropped. It's softer for sure but I still think it's what is being filled up into the leauge. -

You can really see it when you look at the explosion of and access to online betting and high fee fantasy football as well. Rules were changed to favor higher scoring games increasing the spreads and making the games more exciting and lucrative for gamblers. -
Is that what I said? Or is that just what you want to argue against? Let's take a look at his "game winning drives" last year. First up, the 2-7 Saints... Nice 26 yards completion going 1-4 for 26 yards with Chuba scoring on the ground from 16 yards out getting helped by 22 yards in penalties. Next up, the 2-8 Giants... Literally nothing. We recovered a fumble already in FG range. Next up, the Cardinals... Again, literally nothing. Two plays, 2 20+ yard runs by Chuba. But Bryce gets another "GWD" on the stat sheet. Finally against the Falcons we have what most fans would consider a legit game winning drive...

That probably is a part of it but I really think the QB rule changes and move away from violence and physicality for ball carriers was the biggest change the NFL had ever gone through and impacted the game immensely. Even more so than the Mel Blount. I was watching the 2008 AFC championship game the other day and it’s a completely different sport.
