To be fair it was acknowledged that they were bringing DB back slowly and what I read said the plan had been the 1st 4 games. Can’t remember where I saw that it may have been Persons, I read the Athletic. But I saw it a couple of days after I speculated that was what was going on.

If I’m not mistaken we’re near the top of the league in QB pressure. Sacks are great but if we keep pressuring the QB at this rate the sacks will come.

We have enough pieces to field a decent defense if only we had a coordinator that didn’t default to cover-3 zone 50% of the time. And doesn’t have to be asked sweetly with sugar on top by his best defender to get more pass rush opportunities.

While I don't agree with your assessment of Witherspoon, I do agree with this.

It doesn't change who he is. We just replaced a serviceable starter with complete trash. Spoon and Anderson were 3rd round picks and basically what we were hoping to get with Trevin Wallace it's just not working out so far.

His absence here over the last couple of seasons speaks volumes otherwise.

I think about those drat ratings. He is between above average starter and average starter. Closer to above average. He was above average some years.

I would get excited about jameis. Thats just me. I would still look to get somebody to develop behind him tho.

Shaq is really the last panther I had any attachment to. Even though he was here last year, it seems he’s been gone much longer.

I always felt he was over-rated here. To me, it is not about how many tackles you make, it is more about where you make them--Morgan and Beason and Luke were in the hole tacklers and they stopped right there. It seemed to me that Shaq made a lot of tackles from the side--a few yards past the LOS.

The run defense has been clearly better this year outside of week 1. Still some work to be done, but clearly getting Derrick Brown back has had a huge impact.

I honestly think Spoon, Anderson, and Shaq were all basically interchangeable. I think Spoon was the best of the bunch but you're not gonna see a big drop off replacing any with any of the rest.
