Did We Have an Intentional Vanilla Gameplan?
kungfoodude replied to Carolina Cajun's topic in Carolina Panthers
Do you even think for yourself anymore? -
Sanders went out on a route and Rico stayed for a second before sneaking out to the flat. Zero help. Look at Coker crossing the middle. Bryce is reading the two guys at the top of the screen and I guess they weren't open. Obviously he didn't see Coker or Rico. Not sure if Sanders was open. Inside of two minutes it's first read and if not there, take the outlet.

Yeah. Soccer players are the softest athletes on earth. Hockey players play with broken clavicles. While I understand his analogy, soccer players are babies.

Firing Canales now makes improving there even more unlikley to get an improvement than it was before him. IMO. -

I considered it. I left that as a "write in." -
Brother, if you honestly believe that Bryce is either of those guys, I don't know what to say. How about this, take those first three seasons of both Mayfield and Darnold and let me know what strikes you as similar? Both with results and attributes.
-
Agreed. We have invested a ton into our OL and they gave away one of the better LT's for more defensive juice.

Oh definitely not under Tepper but we could technically get worse at QB and DC too. Or even GM, etc. I am asking which factor would you personally change first. My logic is HC because if you give them more actual control then two of those other factors are likely to change anyway. Canales is a fairly limp dick head coach from what I have seen. Basically a youth pastory, buddy boss type. 90% style to 10% substance. -
Agreed on all points. All I'm saying is that there were throws from Bryce that needed to be made to win this game, and he missed em. Shough made tight window throws all game to extend drives. Bryce didn't play bad at all, he just didn't play good enough to win. But I agree, where tf are the designed deep pass plays? You gotta AT LEAST attempt some throughout the game to keep the defense on their toes. I really don't get it. I don't know if it's a Canales thing or a Bryce changing the playcall thing, but there is no fuggin excuse to not dial it up more times throughout that game. It looked like we had the same gameplan as the first go around. What TF did we do during the BYE? We had two weeks to prepare for a 3-10 Saints team.

Funny how we said there was no value in washed up Sam Darnold and washed up Baker Mayfield, too. Just sayin'...

Did We Have an Intentional Vanilla Gameplan?

We are 4.5 points under the league average for scoring. Not gonna be a very good team when you are on the wrong side of that. It's quite shocking how bad our offense is considering the insane amount of capital we've invested compared to the defense. -
Yeah but they’re moving in different directions. Panthers nuked their defense to bring in the best free agent linemen available. The Texans just like sacrificed a chicken to the Old Ones and hoped for the best.
-
Somewhat. We have seen that here in Bryce's first year. Bryce's pressure percentages by year have been 24.2%, 26.7% and 21.6%. His sack percentages have been 10.53%, 7.02% and 5.61%. Stroud's pressure percentages have been 22.0%, 28.0% and 20.4%. His sack percentages have been 7.08%, 8.90% and 6.39%. Bryce has actually been sacked 114 times to Stroud's 113.

Hell yeah it was vanilla, but that seems to be our offense. As a matter of fact we have had 6 games where we have scored over 17 points this season and some were a fluke where we got lucky or had the defense score or put us in a great position to score. This was before yesterday terrible showing: -

Firing doesn't mean upgrade. If the question is upgrade then Bryce Young. That would make the job more appealing to fire Canales in the future -
Wilks is a good man but he is not a very good coach. It happens. Time to move on from this once and for all.

This is the same plan they have every game. its just that sometimes they play the falcons, others defenses in the nfl in Miami and Dallas. -

No, they just suck for a variety of reasons. Have you not seen the past two years of evidence? -

The only mystery is how this surprises anyone at this point. It's nothing more than who they are or how they start every season or every other game. It's just their MO -
misread that sorry CJ stroud is putting up probably slightly better numbers overall and is getting MURDERED out there. Pressured on 70% of his drop backs against the chiefs or something like that? Bryce wouldn’t even survive.

I am saying Dave Canales for these reasons: An upgrade at HC is capable of dealing with both Bryce and a new Defensive Coordinator. He can eventually can them both. -

So, after calming down from how utterly pissed off I was, I just got to thinking about something. This is no excuse whatso ever but the gameplan seemed very just...bland. there wasn't much new or unique, not something you'd expect coming off a bye week and because of that I wonder if they didn't gameplan as much for the Saints because at the time when the gameplan was set it was after the bucs lost to the Saints (but before Atlanta loss) meaning they were already looking and planning for the game here in charlotte anticipating the panthers needing to win the 2 buccaneer games to get in. As such I think its fair to say that the coaches overlooked the saints more so than even the players themselves. Anyone else think this was a possibility?
